Hi. I heard that in Austrailia and New Zealand barefoot is generally accepted and not many places will give you a problem for it. I am a barefooter in the US and we run into a lot of trouble here. I just wanted an idea of how things work there. Is being barefoot generally accepted even in the big cities? (Which is where I would probably go if I were to visit) Also another question is Do you have DSL there? Or high speed internet?
Pass on the internet thing - look up the telecom website maybe? As for barefooting - people generally don't seem to notice whether or not someone is wearing shoes. There's not many "no shoes, no shirt, no service" signs. Actually I can only think of a couple of places that would stress about it - high class restaurants, some hospitals and some pubs and bars (where it's only because of mosh pits and glass-on-the-floor). And even then jandals are usually acceptable.
just don't try going to a movie. my friend was walking into a theatre barefoot and was refused by the staff. he raced down to the kmart and bought some plastic jandals. they were still tied together when he shuffled past the ticket-collector-people, and he took them off as soon as he got in. this was all to see 'matrix revolutions'... yes high speed internet but not cheap. new zealand internet crippled by bloodsucking telecom corporation- most hated company in the country that has kept us a decade behind other 1st world countries for internet efficiency. curse them.
Some bars and entertainment places won't let you in as both said, but most places I don't think notice barefeet, I go to a bar with live entainment in Christchurch barefoot up there dancing not a problem {laughs}. High speed internet whats that haha yeah I agree we have been screwed by telecom but hey I hear at 2am its pretty flash  But nah seriously you will be fine NZ rocks!!
I go nearly everywhere with no shoes on, and i've never had problems with being refused anywhere =/ I live in Wellington. When you walk down the city, you're sure to see someone else not wearing any shoes. I don't think anyone really takes any notice =) Whereas, in Australia, it's different. People always wear shoes. If you're caught walking around barefoot, you get dirty stares and whispers ALL THE TIME. ...It's not worth the attention. I think it's more conservative, but for good reasons. They have some nasty creepy crawlies that wont hesitate to have a good feed on your feet. And it's not as clean, in the sense there's more broken glass, dirty needles and random shit everywhere. I lived in Aus for... 4 years? (about that anyway), and I didn't ever see anyone barefooted. ...Then again, I lived in the city. Might be different in the wop wops.
ah, but see it's ok because we're the underdog...if we trash oz we are evening up the field. If they trash us it's bullying...
Well, if it says anything... when I came to that part of the world, I chose to only see NZ... screw the aussies... they remind me too much of Americans...well a lot of em anyways..
