Monsoors, I have a 3x3x7 ft (63cft) space. NFT nutrient system and LED lighting. Looking to supply CO2 at 0.1cft/h. I am considering using the 2L cola bottle fermentation method but have no idea what sort of gas vol is given off by a fermenting bottle. Anyone got any ideas or recommendations? I am aware of CO2 tablets that are to be disolved in the nutrient but my understanding is that it is desireable to have the CO2 enhancement in the athmosphere only. A long, healthy and interesting life to you all! Bastun
I would only recommend CO2 enrichment for a well experienced grower because it speeds up the plants metabolism. It causes the plant to require more nutrients, more water and more light energy than normal. Everything happens faster (including problems), so experience is of paramount importance. Start off with a good ventilation system to supply a constant flow of fresh air to the plants - once you get all the regular problems sorted out, then think about added CO2. In other words, learn how to walk before you run. I would love to see a "Grow Journal" with an LED light set-up!!! That would be a "first" here, you would become an instant celebrity!
not only do they grow faster and need things much faster... but problems ocurr and develop wwwaaaaayyyy faster....
I have a small grow space (4x4x8) and use the 2l soda bottle co2 idea. It's cheap and easy. I drilled two holes into the cap of the 2l and stuck a air hose in one and one of the green co2 hoses out the other. Hooked the air hose to a pump on a timer (30 on/60 off only when lights are on) and ran the green hose up the center of the grow space. Co2 avg. 1400 ppm during the day. I don't stop the exhaust fans, just let it rip and everything seems to do fine. I add sugar every week or so and every month mix up a new batch. Cheap, easy, and simple. I know guys who use this exact setup for grow spaces small and large. I was told from my introduction into growing that some form of Co2 is a must and I've always had good results.
yeah I look at a co2 supplement the same way as going hydroponic. the only thing it really changes is how fast you harvest. maybe bigger buds occur; i don't know, I haven't heard of that. I grow only for myself in the closet so for me, co2 or hydroponics would be superfluous. I keep a window open and the fans blow fresh air to the plants.
What about in winter? To keep a window open in winter would bring the temp down way too low. I am in a basement, I have windows but fear the cold on my plants what do you recommend?
