Nope, not usually a problem around here, in fact the frost usually bites my last green tomatos. What does the sugar do? I know the monster pumpkin growers feed their pumpkins powdered milk to make them larger, but since no one usually eats the giants not sure how it affects the taste of the fruit. I wouldn't want my tomatos to be sweeter than they naturally are.

I'd heard about milk-fed pumpkins... that's in Farmer Boy from the Little House books! Gardener, they're supposed to taste absolutely wonderful, though I've never tried myself.

But feeding your tomatoes sugar? I'm curious as to what that's supposed to do too. I want my tomatoes to be high in pucker-your-cheeks sour acid! If you want a sweeter or low-acid tomato, you could always try the yellow pear-shaped ones. My mom swears by them; they taste TOO sweet for me!
    love,

Powdered milk is used to treat blossom end rot on squash and pumpkins. BER can be caused by calcium deficiency and the powdered milk is suppose to help with that. Does it make them bigger too?

Oh!! i love the yellow pear tomatoes!! i grow them every year, i can munch those all day long!! They are sweeter than most.

    Beautiful tomato Ronald. :)
