What do you think about the conspiracy theory behind the Titanic? In that they swapped the ships over before the maiden voyage with her sister ship the Olympic in order to claim for an accident the latter ship had!

Sounds possible, although it does ruin the story! I'm still in two minds about it!

I still don't really see what gain there would be in it, especially considering how hard it would be to pull off.

Well they would have been able to get a large payout if they could pretend it was a brand new ship that had been damaged! The Olympic was too badly damaged, so if they could pretend the "Titanic" had an accident, they could claim insurance, get loads of money - then still have the brand new ship (the Titanic disguised as the Olympic) to set sail later! So they could gain money from a ship that would have otherwise just been scrap metal!!

    Pretty good scam if real!

There are too many things wrong with the switch theory...

    1) There's no evidence that Olympic was as badly damaged in the Hawk collision has the switch theorists have claimed.

    2) Titanic's build number, 401, appears in several places on the wreck.

    3) There were many differences between Olympic and Titanic that would've needed to be sorted out.

    4) Hundreds of yard workers were diverted from Titanic's construction to repair Olympic following the Hawk collision. This is when the purported switch took place. How do you keep that many people quiet?

    5) This is the biggie. Titanic was underinsured! A few million pounds worth of risk was carried by White Star's in-house insurance fund. They never gained financially from the sinking.

I didn't say I agreed with it! I didn't make the story up - I've only said what is out there.

You're a little late on that one. Maybe you can come up with your own arguments, instead of preaching Maddox and insulting people with l33tspeak. You're the only one in this forum who uses it, even if you're trying to be ironic.

As far as the Titanic conspiracy goes, I guess it's possible. I'm not too worried about it right now. There are much more pressing issues.

Whether I'm a hippie is debatable. I don't exactly consider myself one. Most probably, no one cares about your opinions, so you come here to get attention. Nice comeback, by the way.

Not a hippie? 2,208 posts on a forum made by hippies for hippies? I believe you.

The vast majority of posters on this forum do not consider themselves hippies. And I really don't care what you believe. Seeing as you don't know me, I don't see how you can make a better call than me on whether or not I'm a hippie.
