Does anyone know of any place online that sells vegan dread wax? All the dread wax I have seen contains beeswax. My dreads are only 3 weeks old and need some help. Thanks!

DONT USE WAX!!! seriously, it was one of my biggest regrets. I used it once and it didnt stop seeping out for weeks. (needless to say i threw that crap away instantaniously)

try a few sites see if any other tips may work. Wax is evil! EVIL!!

    www.dreadheadhq.com
    www.knottyboy.com
and i saw this one on another thread in the forums, my friend said it was helpful for him! www.knottylocks.tk (thanks to fleassy)

hope one (or more) of these can help

but wax isnt a great idea. Can do more harm than help

Wax won't speed up the process...it'll just set you back and hinder it. And no, there's no way to really speed anything up...just time.

i dont know all the ingredients, so i dont know if its vegan.

If you really insist on speeding up the proccess and using some form of product id say try something like this www.dreadheadhq.com go to products and click on the dread accelerator.

my friend used that and swore by it, i swore by time taking its toll on my hair. To each his own

oh, and i forgot- knottyboy.com has a bunch of products and tells their ingredients, like the teas and such... check it out

I had dreads for five years before cutting them off last year. I am currently growing them back.
I have never used any kind of wax or anything.
It all depends on what you want you dreads to look like. If you want all your dreads relatively the same size then use wax or backcombing. You can regulate the amount of hair you put into each dread.
Wax is pretty gross and personally, i think these dreads look unnatural in the long run.

To dread your hair without using wax, just simply stop using conditioner and switch to a residue free shampoo. My favorite is Natures Gate Tea Tree oil shampoo (tea tree is good). Another excellent one is Desert Essence (available from any natural food store) this one is pretty much the same as what they sell as "dread shampoo".
To help speed things up, wear a tam! You can never wear a tam too much! The wool is great for knotting up hair. Also, I use a wool sweater as a pillowcase.
Keep them separated! You will find the natural patterns your hair grows in once the hair starts knotting, try to keep youd dreads separated into these patterns, as they will have a tendency to grow into one big uni-dread!

I also like to put tea tree oil in my hair to comfort my scalp (plus it smells good) It's kind of expensive, but you can find it real cheap at some places.

I think the biggest thing is patience, it takes at least 6 months to even start looking like dreads. You are never going to be able to get instant dreads. They are a big commitment and make sure you're ready to dedicate yourself to it. It will change your life!

    Good luck

The dread accelerator you speak of is just salt-water! Do not buy products! They are a waste of money! Wax is bad! It holds your hair in place and it can't dread and tighten. Its completely useless. Please don't waste your time.

Go grab some sea salt from the store and mix it in a sink full of water and saok your dreads in there, it feels kinda weird but its the very best thing! Salt-water and time are the best thing for your dreads. Please give them time and be patient. Patience is key.

seriously there is no way wax is good for dreads! i dont use it and yes its a slow process but if your serious about dreading you hair it shouldnt matter how long it takes to happen because its there for good anyway (unless you cut them out)

Listen to sprout, sea salt is great, and naturaly done by swiming in the ocean or even going to the coast and letting the sea air get to it does wonders.
Also i use a natural soap from a company called Lush wich is a juniper soap, however i only use this after i go to a festival or rave and they come back smellign really bad. Its designed to dry the hair and only takes oils away rather than putting anything in. Other than that lemon juice dried in the same way, however bleaches your hair in the suun. Tea tree oil stops itching and nits, and the cleaner your dreads are (less grease, wax etc) the easyer they wil tighten as any wax and grease makes ther knotts slide out.
Check out these forums http://www.knottylocks.tk unlike knotty boy or dread head hq, they arent trying to sell you products. Its a forum of dreadlocked people who seriously know their stuff :)
Much love and luck and dreaddy light to you

a member on the older forums (third site since I've been around) swore by aloe. sicky enough to make you somewhat presentable in those messy bedhead but not yet dread months and really good for the hair structure and the scalp.

I'm cracking up reading this because I grow long straight hair and I use slippery fabric on my hair to keep it from roughening!
one day, my place in the universe will be right for dreads. For now, I have a long growth of one dread (which I roll, btw) from a hair wrap, adding stray hairs as needed.

    frizzies are nothing.
It doesnt matter about frizzies because dreads are what they are no matter how they look. Now if someone wanted the "manufactured" dread look... then year go ahead use wax, go to a hair dressers and get them to do it for you... they will look neat and chances are not have much character for quite some time ..... freakyjoe up there has a wonderful character in his dreadlocks... they are free :)

what soap should I be using though - I know oil free and whatever, but where do I find that shit? I've been using Dr. Bonners which seems to be workin alright, but is that really gonna let my hair lock or not? I'm nervious at this stage, because I have fucked up my hair which took a long time to grow and if my dreads don't take I will have to shave my head and no one wants that... Gotta have that freak flag flyin' high!

well..I want to make dreadlocks too,and I know about the backcombing method, but still it is recommended(in every site I looked)to use wax!I don't really want to use it because first of all it can damage ur hair and because I can't find it.

So I want to make dreadlocks without wax.do you just just to backcomb and then they grow alone,or what?
