Finally happened. I was driving today and the largest douchebag in pig history pulled me over. Smelled it. Searched my car. Found it. Arrested me and read me my Miranda rights. But then I put on a goddamn Oscar worthy performance, claiming that I didn't know it was there, it wasn't mine, etc. I talked about my acheivements and how I would never screw up my future like this, blah blah blah. So the pig fucker let me go! He gave me his card, told me that I have until next Friday (one week) to bring him the name of the owner of the weed, the name of a seller, or my confession, or else he would put out a warrant. Some people are telling me that since he didn't arrest me today, there is nothing he can do. Of course the shit was mine and I don't want to rat anyone out. But if I get a drug conviction, I lose my funding for grad school and possibly my job. My only idea is to bring him a fake dealer name and then cry again and beg him not to ruin my life. I am going to talk to a lawyer, but does anyone have any advice? God, this sucks, but I am one lucky bitch for getting out of an arrest.
Consult a lawyer. Immediately. Tell them it was yours, tell them the options presented (first find out if they're legal), then decide what to do.
Absolutely. Find a very good lawyer, pay the high fee (to save your future) and say nothing to anyone till you do that, especially the pig. Shitty situation, but atleast, as you said, you havn't been busted so far. Best of luck.
It doesn't matter if the cop arrests you that day or not. They generally have anywhere from a year to two years to bring charges in a misdemeanor case (I assume that is what it is). as the others said, get a lawyer, don't forget to tell him ANYTHING remotely related to the case, and do whatever he tells you to do. My guess is that the cop's just fishing; trying to turn a nickle and dime possession case into something more. I also suspect that if you were to "turn someone in" not only would your karma be seriously f***ed up, but he would probably just arrest and charge YOU at that time as well. He is under NO OBLIGATION to honor his words, or his promises. Cops will do or say ANYTHING, even if it is not legal, to get a bust, or to make a small bust bigger. After maybe preachers and the federal government, cops are the biggest liars around. Tread lightly, and take care. With a good attorney you could probably beat these charges, or at worst get a little bit of probation. Don't swaet it but be smart!
Damn that is a tough break, but at least you didn't get arrested there and then. I don't have any advice for you as I have no idea about America's system of "justice". But I wish you the best of luck and let us know how it went.
Hmm.. have an ex-dealer you hate? Id blame it on him. Ive been in a similiar situation but I just got a good lawyer. And I was found guilty but I had to pay a possession fine and it didnt go on my record.
^ dont blame it on someone you hate. thats fucked up. just say it was your friends friend who left it in there because he didnt want to take it back to the airport when he returned to [insert country]
