Um...okay, in a few dreads there are places near the roots that are squishy, almost like they're wet. And if I play with it for a bit my fingers get filmy. It doesn't smell bad at all. Is this natural oils from my head (haven't washed my hair in more than a month.) or is it mold?

Agh, I really don't want mold!

Oh, also, you can see it. In the places where its squishy, it's a little tiny bit lighter colored than the rest of the dread. And it's all on the top of my head, nowhere in the middle or bottom. Just the parts that are exposed the most, I guess...

    :(

Just wondering...why haven't you washed your hair in more than a month? It's not really healthy to your hair, should make sense. And dirty hair kinda slows down the dreading process. But to answer the question, I think you should wash your hair asap and see if it's still there.

Doesn't sound like mold.. just sounds like your hairs natural oils like you say. Just give it a wash with Dr Bronners :)

phen, I wash my hair every month or so. I don't think that's gross, because my head produces oils at that rate. It's become accustomed to it, so my hair's not greasy like the average person's would be.

I think maybe it's because I've been out in the rain a lot this month, and then left my hair in a headband...I don't know. :( I just don't have the patience to blow dry my hair!

I've started mega-dosing omgea-3 fish oils for my skin (33 and spotty *sigh*) and I'm hoping it's gonna cut down on my scalp grease production as well. I'll let you know in a month or so if I see a difference.

At the moment, my roots have been getting that greasy wet feeling after 4/5 days of not washing. I've also been using Zig-Zags to blot my scalp and roots. Those babies can suck up a nice amount of oil and they don't have powder or anything on them, unlike face-blotting paper. I might switch to Export papers for a test as they are a thicker pap. and may absorb more.

sounds like scalp oils to me. if it were mould it would probably smell all musty.
i think its good for your hair to not wash it or wash it very little. my hair is taking a very long time to adjust to less frequent washings, it still gets greasy after a week or so but i dont wash it till it gets itchy. actually its been like a month now... yay!
dr bronners doesnt really get the grease out of my hair but that deep cleaning concoction sure does.
anyway, if you dont like it then just wash your hair. it can impede locking but its not bad for you or anything.

Omega-3 helps acne? You just taking them in pill form? Got me curious, i tried everything to get rid of my acne, in the end it was a crazy morning ritual of anti biotics, tea tree and some spot stuff called quinodern which had like 20% peroxide in and burnt like fuck... Give that a go! haha.

Yeah. You gotta mega dose it and balance it out with your diet. Here's a linky
The fish oil talk is in a sticky up top. I've only just started but it sounds promising as omega-3 will balance out stuff like hormones as well, and sometimes adult acne is all about hormonal imbalance. And your skin starts producing less of it's oily crap when it's getting all it needs.

Why not give it a shot, eh? I've tried everything else and like fuckn' hell I"m gonna screw up my body with accutane. That whole hollistic section has some good ideas in it.

((Many pardons for the hijack!! ))

Just curious, what "deep cleaning" concoction are you talking about? The baking soda + viniger solution?
