A lot of pot heads seem to be overly self-conscious

...sometimes to an annoying degree. I've noticed that almost every time I split weed with someone who I don't usually smoke with, I end up watching a very similar series of events unfold: the other person will insist on burning through bowl after bowl simply because we can, which is a complete waste of both marijuana and its potential effect in the near future. My response is usually a polite 'thanks but no thanks' after the first or second bowl which, for whatever reason, the other person almost always feels is tantamount to a slap in the face: "What, you don't like the weed?" "Well now I feel like a huge pot head..." "Did you want to get going or something?" The simple response of 'a bowl or two is usually plenty for me, and I'd like to keep it that way' always seems to be met with just as much hostility as the prudence that it precipitated from.

I know this all sounds harmless and petty, but seeing this time after time begs the question of how it is that a lot of these people view marijuana and the point of smoking it: A useful gift from Nature, or a social crutch blindly thrashed over some common ground that smoking inherently provides? I mean, with some of these people you'd think that they see little difference between smoking weed and rowing a boat in tandem.

I guess my point here is that steadfast social obligation of any kind lies contrary to what doing something as potentially sensible (and liberating?) as smoking marijuana can be. In this case, applying the ugly face of an ego to the unnecessary prison of groupthink seems to result in automaton-esque behavior played out with self-conscious sensibilities. I personally don't see much difference between that and dealing with 'office culture' from inside of a cubicle.

I love smoking till it is too hard to smoke more.

I like that delay when someone asks you something.

"Dude, Nate, pass me a dr. P"

I look around 2 minutes later "what?, No I am fine I am not thirsty"

    Lol.

maybe they just wanted to smoke more and they would feel weird smoking more while you werent? or they are just used to smoking a lot and they found it out of the ordinary to stop so soon.

in the past, and even now thats how it's always been for me

there's never any sense on conservation, if we have a bag, we smoke until it's gone

the only downside of this isnt money however for us, it's finding more weed later that day/day after, my usual source is gone for like a year + so lately i've had to buy weed, which i have no problem with, but finding a reliable source who's always around when u want to smoke is the hard part

of course, where there's a will there's a way, but i dont want to have to phone 5 different dirt balls to find a 20 bag

i feel yeah man. i like to wait 10 mintes plays some video games then see how im doin between packing bowls

while smoking 5 cones to the dome in 9 minutes is pretty crazy, it isn't as enjoyable as getting to the perfect level where i can still function to me.

What I meant is that applying meaningless rules and the subsiquent emotional response to those rules to the experience of smoking marijuana completely defeats the purpose of smoking in the first place, at least from the perspective of personal freedom and self-accountability. In other words, behavior is entirely situational and marijuana seems to accentuate that wonderful fact of life in the human mind; why mess with that by introducing a status quo of any kind while smoking or, at the very least, feel insulted when that status quo is deviated from?

couldn't agree more. that's why all these rigidly correct pothead rules/etiquette/whatever are so silly.

Ya, seeing as chiefing is somewhat of a counterculture activity it is bullshit whenever anyone creates rules for smoking. But I don't think it's that big of a deal because these norms are only a product of the fact that the people who create them generally have a hard time dealing with people in their day to day lives. When you deviate from the one set of norms that they can conform to, they get pissed because it denies them the chance to show you how well they can conform to that one set of norms.

who even needs fucking "norms"? normalcy is just some abstract concept born out of human bumbling, anyway.

Well, i agree with you on some parts, although some people have a much higher tolerance. Take myself for example, i will match bowls with my buddies. And they may be high after about 2-3 bowls, but i need probably about 4 to get high. Because my tolerance is that high.

Dude this reminds me of last weekend. Two friends of mine bought bud. One spent $21 and the other spent $9. In all of my circles, who ever spends the most owns the bud (unless closely matched). I don't think you can argue with that. Well, we smoked half the bag that night (the three of us). The next morning the one who spent $9 says "I gotta go to Gary's and go pick up a joint or two to take home". (Gary was the one who spent $21, he went home by this point) I'm like "what the fuck?"... You guys smoked half the bag, he spent way more than you, and you have the nerve to think you can go and get another joint for yourself? He made some excuse like "well, I never said when I was smoking my part of the portion" (when that is a lie anyways because he was the one going "let's smoke another bowl" all night).

The point behind this is: I think there should be some norms, like whoever spends the most, should own the bag. Unless it's being split, which in this case, it wasn't. But only common sense types of norms should be put into smoking marijuana.

(BTW if your wondering why I smoked it, but didn't put any in it, it is because the two were getting back for me smoking them up a lot)

i dunno, getting back to the scenario of the first post, i can understand it happening, ive been one to say nah i dont want any more, and of course theyve often suggested that i do have anotehr or else said something about it, but i dont know if ive had someone come out and say that they feel like a junkie because of it lol. or maybe so?

whatever the case ive been used to smokin with ppl who arent stoners and they might often smoke l ess than me, so i dont relate to the self-consciousness ppl get.

but a lot of my friends have that mentality to keep smokin till its gone. i dont really get it

There's no need to write a dissertation on a marijuana forum dude.
