A buddie of mine and I picked these in 3 hours while hiking around during the peak of last years harvest season. Great exercise too.
I built a 5 shelf drying rack out of fine wire mesh put it in a closet with an electric oil filled radiator heater set on low and they dried nicely within 24 hrs. If I remember correctly when that batch was dried it ended up being around 1.25 lbs. I only went picking about 6 times last year and ended up with about 4 lbs. at the end of the season.
Thats very greedy of you. No one could possibly take that many shrooms. Next time please leave some- the baby ones, growing as to continue the shroom family
I'm not joking about anything. I started going out to the same field this week and have already picked 6 oz. dried, its not even July yet. Gonna be a good year this year.
Wow man... just wow. Any tips for the begginning shroom-picker? I live on vancouver island, bc, canada if it helps at all.
I live on what is called the "Nature Coast" of Florida aprox. an hr. north of Tampa where alot of well fed cows and very happy people live, or did I get that backwards. Where alot of happy cows and well fed people live, depending the way you want to look at it. These gulf coast cubensis grow in such abundance here, during the peak of the season a days picking ends not because you picked the field clean but because your just too tired (especially the knees) to pick any more. Kinda spoiled here, there have been days where there were so many I was only picking the ones that I thought looked pretty enough, similar to the way you pick through produce at your local grocery store. An added bonus is the field I go to has tons of blackberry bushes, so I pick those as well. The nice thing about Florida is its legal to have a bag of freshly picked Psilocybe mushrooms, just don't get caught with dried ones. PEACE
Remember to take spore prints of the ones that are going to be ingested man! You can never be too careful with wild mushrooms. They could be poisonous clones. I'm happy for you, those are a lot of trips! Let your imaginations soar!
Looks like when I went to Ocala, FL for the rainbow gathering and myself and 3 friends went to a farm and each filled our own trash bags with the same mushrooms I'll never forget walking back to camp with the bags over our shoulders, passing a school bus of elementary school kids staring at us dirty hippies spun out of our minds
yea man up here there's nothing to be found. thats some privilege you have, hippieatheart said it all.
