does anyone know any methods to get dreads to grow together? quite a lot of my dreads are on the thin side and i want to know if there's something i can do to get them to congo and form some thicker locks.

This is sort of funny, because I'm actually trying to keep mine from growing together, and it's becoming quite an ordeal. I have to rip the same 3 locks apart every single day because they're trying to grow together, and they're insanely tight at the roots.

I don't know of any specific way to get the congo going on, but I'd imagine that if you start sewing the loose hairs from one dread into another close to it, that might help speed the process.

Eh, just leave them. They'll congo, trust me.

If you're THAT impatient, maybe try putting two into a wrap or bead together or something.

put the ones you want to grow together into a bead then push the bead up as close to your scalp as possible.

I know what you mean actually. I've had natural dreads for over a year. Since I first ripped them apart to have my hair in sections rather than a big mess, none of them have joined together. In over a year, they haven't even tried. They hate each other that much. I do know that rubbing your hair with wool can roughen it up. And when I've used salt water, my dreads seem to start talking to each other...but not enough to have dread sex. I'm just too lazy to do more about it and force them. They obviously don't want it.

Sounds weird. But i sowed mine together.. it works.. The cotton will pretty much fall out by itself anyway by which point they've started to congo. Beads work too, or pipe cleaners.
