Today the US Supreme Court handed down a truly fascist ruling, not unexpected from the Republican Party appointed bigots who reign there, decreeing that a high school student may not exercise a right to free speech at a school event in promotion of illegal drug use. One can cite rationales for limiting free speech that directly calls for harm to an individual or maligns on the basis of race, gender etc. However to limit free speech expressing disagreement with merely a matter of legality, to do so at all, much the less when a change in said law would not necessarily be counter to the public interest (that is, one can put forth reasonable arguments for the legalization of marijuana in certain capacities e.g in circumstances of medical indication; or one can argue that legalization would moderate criminality) is truly as bad as it gets. The logical extension of the argument manifested in today's ruling is "All laws enacted are permanent and infallible and it is a criminal offense to speak against any law". What I would say to this young man Joseph Fredricks who unfurled his banner saying Bong Hits 4 Jesus and then took his case to the Supreme Court is that he can be PROUD, yes PROUD and REJOICE that the Supreme Court ruled as it did because it proves his point that this nation is well along the road to totalitarianism. He is vindicated.
because if he says marijuana that will influence kids to want to smoke and then there will be a bunch of stoned kids walking around and they will do poorly on report cards and they will do say badly on academics and sports they will have to fire alot of teachers and those teachers will picket the media will start filming and covering the picketing causing national attention so the hippies and potheads will protest the school for not letting the kids say marijuana then the anarchist and liberals and libertarians will jump in saying we need to lessen or abolish government control causing massive protest from teachers,hippies,potheads,anarchist,libertarians liberals etc. They will also start even MORE media attention causing conservative red state activist and far-right polititical commentators to issue counter protest these protest and counter protest to be huge they will close down streets and the constant protest will make homeowners around that areas property value drop tremendously so the house owners will be evicted but no one wants to move there so the houses start etting old and rundown and the property values in the next neighboor hoods will also plummet and so on and then the next neighboorhood until that whole countries housing vaues will plummet and there would be a huge jump in homelessness and people would be naked and starving in the streets causing a revolution between poor and rich dividing the union in rich vs poor the U.S would go into the next civil war and we would plunge into total anarchy millions of people would die. so do you really think thats worth millions of people dying? think again
What I found most ironic about this was that the whole thing happened in Alaska, where Marijuana is decriminalized as it is.
