I am someone that lives in the middle of a really conservitive area. The people here love meat and taters. The thing is that i want to be vegan, but I cannot give a lot of the food otherwise i would suffer from malnutrition. I went Vegetarian once, and I get a lot of frowns because I refuse to eat meat. It got so bad that they just buy nothing stuff with meat in it just for me. I guess there is not much I can do when I don't buy the food, but it still sucks when I go to college and try it and I get the same results due to the food plan. Does anyone have any suggestions on this new life style and how I might aquire it? (trust me I will be leaving this conservitive area soon.)

i live in a town with a slaughter house...i feel your pain.
    Mail order food...
or shop in the closest big town and take a cooler to haul your grocerys back..
theres a lot you can eat you just have to look for it, and take it one step at a time...

PM me if you wanna ask anything specific because i feel your pain!

If you really want this you will find a way to buy your own food and then get what you want and need.

Your college HAS to have a vegetarian food option.

Maybe not vegan, but you can talk to them about it. Talk to the director of the culinary services about it... it's a worthy concern.

I'm having similar problems, I'm in Estonia though. Every single meal here has meat in it so i just have to go out and find something to eat from somewhere else, nobody in the school gives a damn either. When i tried to bring up the subject everyone was like "What? why the hell don't you eat meat!?" so after trying to explain that i'm a vegetarian they were still like "uhm...it's your choice, there's nothing we can do about it" so i just stood there, groaned and walked away. Never realized that they HAVE to have an option though...on the other hand I'm on the other side of the globe so I'll have to look into it if I can do anything about it.

I'm in a small southern town, so there isn't much here in the way of health food type stores and such. I'm in a different stage of life, though (I'm the mom, and I do the grocery shopping!) so I tend to stock up on produce and some frozen veggies, canned beans, etc.

Do you have any options in terms of cooking your own food? Are you allowed to keep a microwave and minifridge? If so, you could cook some of your own meals.

Also, does the cafeteria serve veggies? You could refuse the main course and opt for the side dishes and fruits and such. It's probably not full-on vegan, but at least you might avoid meats.
