I have a family reunion to go to today.
Who's going to come save me?
I haven't been to one in years and I decided it was probably about time I went.
It's going to be a hell along day though, becuase of so many people. It goes something like this:
    Grandparents
Their 8 kids (One of them my dad)
Then all them have at least two kids, all but me adults..
Then there are the great grand children

    Save me!

I feel for you. We've got a family reunion coming up in early August and I am sooo not looking forward to it. For the past three years, we've managed to skip out on it, been on vacation. This year, not so. They're having it earlier, so we'll be in town. I promised we would be there for my grandmother's sake. She wants to show us all off. *sighs*

My family reunions are quite large, most of the older generation in it came from families that had 8-10 children. So add to that all of the children and grandchildren, great grandchildren, spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, blah, blah, blah. Uggghhh. Most of that particular side of the family is quite snobby. I hate to say it, but they are.

Oh well, I'm just going to have to suck it up, put on my best smile and chug a few beers beforehand. ;)

Anyway, good luck to you. Look at it this way, at least it's only once a year, right? ;)

dave's family had a family reunion every year until his great granma died at age 100. the whole thing was for her, anyway. her birthday party and funeral a couple weeks later was the end of that.

So basically his great grandmother (the grand and honored matriarch of the family) was the glue which held everything together.

It's a testament to just how fragile the family structure can be.

Hmmm...I actually always loved our family reunions. Sadly, the last big family get-together was when my dad's father died, though. My mom's side of the family is so screwed up now that I'm not sure I could go without being marked criminally insane.

well, ever since my grandmother died (my dad's mom), we have not had any family xmas get togethers since then...... we just all got together because my grandmother was still alive. we all have our own little families now....

reunions on the other hand...... still goes on, with my great grandparents families..... my mom and dad still go to the one in missouri, for my dad's dad's family.... all the other family reunions we hardly ever went to.

It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and I'm not sure if that's becuase everyone was a little more laid back or each beer that passed through me made me more laid back. Anyways. I actually had a bit of fun. It was interesting to hear my uncles talk a bout my dad as a kid. I felt like I got to know him a little better. :)

That's cool. :H Glad you got something out of it.
My aunt made us all do the last one sober! I'll admit, I was a bit anxious about it. I hadn't seen any family in years, but it was actually nice. I got to meet a couple relatives I hadn't seen since I was just a spud.

Family reunions are fun. Well, I think they're fun because we always have them at the lake cabin and I can just hide from the "same ol', same ol'" in the lake with my favorite cousins.

Speaking of family reunions, I have kind of a small one to go to tomorrow... Out to lunch with a bunch of family members that I don't know or haven't seen since I was a baby.

Anyway, back to you... Good luck with yours. It won't be so bad.
