When I think of Progressive Rock, I think TOOL. I believe that TOOl is a great progressive rock band that deserves more respect. Sure, vintage stuff like King Crimson and The Mahavishnu Orchestra is great, but I think TOOLs style and innovation have something worth listening to. Anyone agree?
I think tool is great, I dont think they need more respect- theyve got enough already, and sometimes I think they are a bit over-rated, but none the less one of todays truley great bands. I think that Tool, in the future will be considered a turning point or a landmark of progressive rock, especialy for the ninetys. I think this because progressive metal, and metal in general is becoming more and more popular and tool are a band with alot of progressive elements but with out the image of hardcore satan worshipers 666, so is more accesable for other listeners.

Well I think they deserve more respect because everytime someone hears TOOL for the first time, they miss the concept of the music and hate it; how one song can take you from spaced out, trippy laid back music to loud exciting riffs and lyrics that can linger for ten minutes long. I think if anything, they are under-rated.
new leader? thats quite a thing to say. there are a shit load of prog bands out there, seriously under-rated ones. tool isn't exactly prog, its prog-metal. and theyre alot more mainstream than most prog bands, actually, they are somewhat mainstream, which makes them more overrated and gets more attention than most prog bands that i know of (besides pink floyd). Tools great, but theyre no king crimson or yes.
I completely disagree with everything you have to say. First, they arn't really mainstream considering that 95% of people who listen to mainstream or popular music have no idea who they are or what they sound like. Next, being "over-rated" doesnt change the fact that they are 'progressive'(Progressive is the definition of a genre, buddy). And how does being mainstream make an artist over-rated anyway? This makes no sense and shows you have an immature way of looking at music in general. Also, I never compared them to King Crimson and yes-I said Tool was prog-rocks "new" leader...I thought King Crimson and Yes were in the 70's...
tool gained tremendous influence from king crimson...so its easy to make the connection when discussing one. personally, i think king crimson and yes are both quite boring. tools music is just seamless.
They are mental. They never feel the need to rush, can get into an amazing riff, but play it slower than anyone else would dare to.
TOOL kicks so much ass, by far my favorite band... and people who say they are mainstream are soo wrong. by the way scrap, spokane... sweet, im CDA.
