I recently got myself an Oyster card the other day. After the Great southeastern train robbery of 2007, I knew that now the machine had got a new upgrade against desperados like myself. (People close to living off the grid, either through unemployment or no close friends as such. Each day they try and beat the system to stay alive or to get somewhere)

I discovered that no river boat service accepts Oyster. National Rail are still being stupid about the whole Oyster idea because on many suburban rail services like for instance, Lewisham to Charing Cross. You cannot use the oyster. so am wondering how it is cheaper!

Wouldn't it be great if the boat services, like Thames clipper and Thames Tate service have oyster pay as you go? I mean it would enable many many people to save up or store a rover ticket on their oyster for the weekend> thus also the river would then take some of the burden off road and rail services. At one time, one used the river alot, back in the old ancient days. It seems that only a small fleet of public boat services dot up and down. This could expand or become more accessable, more payer friendly. Oyster on the boat services could open up a whole new dimension to Londoners and tourist industry. Currently cash it costs 12 pounds single from Greenwich to Westminster pier. They could do a 50% reduction for oyster users and with more using the boat services via oyster, the price would go down further. Using the boats is a healthier way to get into London. It takes a bit longer but when you finally find your sea legs, you feel fresh and alive and alot cooler. Would you rather take the crowded jubilee line from north greenwich to Westminster or take the boat from Greenwich and arrive at westminster cool and fresh?

I seem to have flamingoed up. I just realised that polls should go into UK polls. [IMG]

Hello! I checked out this post because I thought it was going to be about oyster farming or something to do with oysters. Now I am curious what this oyster card is all about and what LDN stands for. Cheers!

I reckon City Cruises could be a viable Oyster participant. even if it is available on non prepay. I am burning to put a few things to the mayor of London, but am not sure how or if one could have a one to one, or just send a parchment (letter) outlining my ideas and visions, concerns and praises.?

not true dude ! - if you buy a one week oyster card and keep the reciept you can use it just like the old travel cards on national rail as well as the underground - you just got to have the reciept with it and it has to be a one week card - erm £15 as I recall or are they £17 anyway thats really good considering a day ticket is 5.40 or something

I aint going to purchase no seven day travel card on oyster just to be able to get on some national rail. Lets see, I reckon seven day travel card would probably cost about 30 pounds. Erm, day travel card, non oyster, 6.70 or 13 pounds peak.

I have put my foot down on simply avoiding national rail as they don't seem to want to get into the oyster. making the majority of oyster users life hell and slightly longer. Foot has come down, I am only going to use dlr,tube,bus/tram. The foot is spoken.

Noticed that DLR are offering a rover ticket for 10.25. Pretty good deal especially when boat fares singly cost from around the same price.

youre a nutcase mate - I know what its about and as long as you touch the card opn the barrier in both directions any journey is £1 on the underground in any direction so long as its zone 6 to 2 and I think its £2 IN ZONE 1
the oyster cards are better - so long as you keep the reciepy you can get on national rail within the london zones !!
    heres the zone 1 - x prices
    http://www.ukstudentlife.com/Travel/Transport/London/Underground.htm#TicketPrices2007

zone 2-3 is about £16 per week I dunno what youre moaning about but I was wondering if you are really as glum as you make out to be ? I bet you could easily get a job at an undertakers firm !

BTW you can use your zone 2-3 oyster card even on the busses in zone 1 with no extra charge - so theyre definitely good value - I use one all the time £16 for zone 2-3 and any bus in zone 1-6 ?????
youre nuts if you think thats too much - besides being unemployed you can get yours half price at the dole office !!!!!!!!
    so thats £8
