After much thorough investigation on the matter of meditation, I found out that among many forms of meditation; Zazen appeals the most to me. Yet, there is no Zen master around here. And no dojo. Even if there was, I wouldn't be able to afford it. I am directed towards Hakuun Yosutani-roshi's writings on Zen and Zazen and will try to initiate my Zen training all by myself. All help appreciated Thanks already!
It's good to have a reality check. Meditation can put you out of touch. A good teacher will call you back to the chopping wood and carrying water part. It's important to keep your practice firmly grounded and it's so easy to drift off into some ineffectual dream state.
I also have no teacher within reasonable distance. You might get some benefit by learning shikantaza, or as the Taoists call it, "Sitting Forgetting". It helps me more than focused meditation, since I have no sage or master to direct me. Once you get the taste of it, it's pretty easy to just "fall into it" if you can find a quiet place without a lot of distractions.
