Landon has been extremely fussy lately. more so at night. he doesn't ever want us to put him down. This has been going on for the last 2 days or so.

what makes me think it could maybe be an ear infection is that he never wants to be laying down. he always wants to be upright. He will fall asleep if we're holding him up to our chest, but as soon as we lay him down he wakes up and cries. he will sleep in his swing as long as its in the upright sitting position. he can barely sit up on his own now, so if we're holding him he'll sit up on the couch and be ok for awhile.

i've had a hard time getting him to finish a bottle bc he will start fussing after only eating a little bit. (bc we lay him down to feed him?) and so he'll eat off and on constantly bc he is hungry but will not sit for a whole feeding.

he is also most fussy in the evenings and at night. he is not sleeping well at all. he wakes up frequently just to cry. and in the mornings he seems more comfortable.

i've also noticed him shaking his head and burying his face in my arms. and he seems to be more comfortable with a blanket up by his face covering his ears.

so does it sound like an ear infection? at first i just thought he was being unusually cranky but figured it was probably the heat. but it doesn't make sense that he's more cranky at night and that its been going on for the last few days. he has his 2 month ckeckup next week, so i'm trying to decide if i should call the doctor before that.

i've also heard a lot of controversy over peds diagnosing ear infections. anything i should look out for? idk.. this is all new to me... and advice would be great. tia.

Feel and look at his ears yourself. Try a time when he has been up for a while and has not been buried in blanket. Put your fingers gently on the skin of and around his ear. Does his ear feel "hot"? Also tug gently on his earlobe. If it is an ear infection he will let you know that you are hurting him when you do this.

He could be teething as well. You can use lavenar essential oil around his ear if it is an infection. Another thing that works believe it or not is to blow cigarette smoke into his ear. Turn the cigarette around like you are shotgunning, (not that anyone on here knows how to do that), put the filter in his ear and gently blow. It will numb the pain faster than anything. Maybe enough for you to get a few hours sleep. And it won't hurt the baby. At least those nasty things are good for something.

hmm. well i called the dr this morning and they said that 2 month old babies don't get ear infections. so they wont see him. even though i told them that he was screaming like he was in pain last night and has not slept much in 2 days. they said to put a humidifier in the room and see if he's better by monday. hmm. idk but i feel like something is wrong. maybe i'm being over protective?

and cigarette smoke? thats so wierd. . . don't they tell you that being around cigarette smoke can cause ear infections?

Does he pull at his ear? If so, it most likely it is. Don't wait too long. Not to scare you, but don't wait to long. Ear infections it nothing to fool around with. I would take him. Better safe than sorry. Cute baby.
    I would

It really doesn't sound like an ear infection to me. It seems as though he is tired, hot, cranky, and maybe an upset tummy. Usually when kids get an ear infection, they have diarhea, red ears, and tug their ears.
At 2 months he is probably just going through a fussy stage. And cigarette smoke???? Hopefully no one is smoking in the house, or around the baby for a number of reasons.

yeah no one would ever have cigarette smoke around him. no one in this house even smokes. i would never want to have him exposed to it for any reason.

I know it sounds really really strange and I certainly am not advocating smoking around your child, especially not one so young. But it does kill the pain. I had horrible ear infections as a child. My dad would do this and it ended the pain instantly.
