I know i havent posted in a while but i was wondering how far you guys thought this should be allowed

total free speech - surely this would include allowing people to promote racism, terrorism or whatever.

like to know what you think

    thanks, sam

'Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two equals four.'

I believe in the freedom of speech, so long as it doesn't infringe on anothers. There's a word for it, but I've forgot. Anyone else know what it is?

I have noticed that these days on the uk forum, free expression has simply become a great novelty. To get through a session of free speech without others bombing you or flaming is quite an achievement. Once not long ago the uk forums went as far as possible to promote total freedom of speech. I think there has been some degradation. Whether it is just paranoia or maybe there is something deteriorating. I believe that anyone who comes here automatically clocks on that they can experience a free speech chat with few boundaries. Aslong as they are not racist or go against some terms and conditions. Everyone has a good deal. Or they did. I have noticed some degradation and feel it is getting worse.

That's what freedom of speech is; the ability to say that someone else is wrong.

no its not, you are wrong. Freedom of speech is merely the right to speak openly of ones thoughts on any subject. Your narrow view of freedom is symptomatic of decades of political will to remove that freedom.

Free speech is the right to say anything you like so long as it is not libelous or slanderous. Infact in the unwritten constitution of GB that is and was the only proviso on free speech, it is the freedom to express whatever is on your mind so long as it is truthful and/or does not wrongfully damage the reputation of another.

This was the law because in the days when few people travelled further than a mile or two from home in their lifetime a good reputation was essential to a persons ability to live within the community
