I have fat dreads. I find them discouraging at times though. People will come up to me and say "I wanted dreads.. but if I got them they wouldn't be fat like yours, they would be thinner." It's kinda discouraging. Has anyone else with fatties experienced this? Just curious
i like fatties... I'm hoping mine decide to fatten up a bit more don't be discouraged I'm sure they are fabulous!
they probably want them to be cool, at least anyone i've met who wants them thin and nice and neat has been more trying to follow the trend, not the lifestyle. no offense to anyone who has thin ones. i had thin ones for awhile. they were cute, but it just didnt seem like a connection to the world for me.
Ew, thin ones remind me of Milli Vanilli... I have thinner ones, fatties, medium ones... I think fatties are sexy. There's just more to them than the skinny little ones.
when i first got mine done they were over an inch thick and i loved them! but they had loads of wax and now they have thinned out and are now kinda fallin apart so ill see what happens but hey- thers nuthin wrong with fatties they kick ass
my thoughts exactly. people who say that know nothing about dreads & that you can't control how they turn out. people are so annoying.
Don't be discouraged... it's just like everyone else said, they probably don't understand the dreading process, or appreciate dreading for what it really is. I've only had mine a few days, but my favorite part about them, is that they are all different and unique from each other....I've got little skinnies, fatties, medium-sized... "Babies, teenagers, parents, grandparents" (How I described it the other day haha) It's funny because the very thing I wanted to avoid when deciding to start the dreading process was having not just skinny dreads, but skinny, UNIFORMED dreads. I know this guy, who has "perfectly" sectioned, uniformed skinny little dreads, and all of my friends drool over them and say how perfect they are...but since when were dreads supposed to be perfect? I don't want mine to look anything like my friend's...I want mine to have PERSONALITY
I think a lot of people don't like fatties because they aren't "uniform", screw what they think, if you like them then why should it matter. Personally I like the look of thick wild dreads rather than uniform skinny ones, but each to their own.
Yah I think fatties are where its at for me, im tall and slim and with fat dreadskees, if people dont like your fat ones, well heck tell them dreads arent for them.
fatties are so attractive to me i think they are the best dreads ever. my dreads are all different sizes but my favourites are the fatties.
Bahaha, but come on we dont want to be too mean lol, we just want to make sure that they know dreads are the way to go!
i had comments like that with my last set. they were pretty fat (i only had 19 or so) and my hair was really long. i just defended them against all the negativity and loved them anyway. and so should you! just tell those people "skinny dreads are nice, but i like mine fat". lol!
I saw this one chick who had like 4 dreads...no kidding. It actually scared me off of getting them for awhile. Because I was afraid my hair would do that. So THAT degree of fattyosity isn't good, I think. personally. Ooo, speaking of...one of my guy friends saw mine for the first time the other day (not all of my friends even KNOW I have dreads...I went away to college.) and he was playing with my dreads, and found the fattest fatty I have in the back. It's about 3 dreads that congoed. He said it's his favorite. Made me smile all day.
Man, I'm really hoping mine turn out fatter. Mine are pretty thin, and if they don't get fatter, I'm gonna be pretty disappointed. I have about 27, and having that little you'd think they'd be fat.. Personally, I think fatties are the best. Thin ones are alright, but I think thickies are WAY more awesome. Like everybody else said, if you like them... who gives a hell what anybody else thinks?
i can tell mine are going to be a lot fatter, because the roots are fatter... my hair was layered before the dreads so they kind of taper off currently...
i actually prefer fatter to thin. i dislike uniform thin dreads... all being the same size. no offense to those that do
