kinda useing johnys idea only for garlic

annyone wanna see who can grow the biggest garlic.
    2 rules
    1-- must be organic
2---must be a tru garlic strain,so eliphant garlic is out.

winner gets 2 lbs of garlic from my farm.(choice of anny of our 9 strains)
    happy growing,,(and weeding)

    Hey Frog,

Are you going to be the judge? 'cause if you are, you can't be a contestant too. I know I wouldn't want to go up against you in a garlic contest.

How's everything goin' & growin'? Hope it's better than here. Having a REAL BAD YEAR !!! -- Drought, sever drought. Since March 1st I've gotten a little less than 4" rain.... man I got trees dying. Three of my main money makers -- Tomatoes, peppers, & basil -- I've given up on them for the year. All the folks around here who garden for fun & some fresh food - - they've plowed the gardens under. Fields where there's usually feed corn or hay - - brown dirt. Peachs are the big thing around here & some neighbors are trying to harvest some - - crisp & crunchy are good for apples, not peachs. Who wants a crunchy peach?

Anyway, good luck with the contest.

    Peace,

    Hi p.o.d.,,
we would all judge them by waight or a pic with a common object like a lighter

sorry to here about the dry weather, i hope you and your niebors and farmers are able to salvage what you can.wishing you a better grow season my brother.

the weather here has been hot and dry this week, a few weeks ago some strong storms rolled thru and dumped allot of rain. the gardens are lookin pretty good so far. hopefully it will rain next week.
the garlic scaped alitle early this year. i got em all plucked off now.im pretty happy with the beds this year as i think i got a good soil and compost base.it took a few years adding 2 dump truck loads of black dirt and one load of compoast to each of the 3 new beds, for 3 concecutive years.all the dirt work was woth it. now i just am gonna add alitle more nutrieance each year.
think im gonna disscontinue the 4 th bed (oldest one) (produces smaller bulbs) and concentrate on perfecting my strains in the best produceing beds.
the rest of the gardens are well, the herbal society adopted our cottage gardens and display gardens. Some of moms old friends, she was the pres. of the local herb club ,so when she died they all steped up and wanted to help.
I said go ahead, next thing i know theres 6 old ladys working in a group and weeds were flying evryware. it was cool to watch,(sad tho,mom was the last old lasddy i saw out there working, freeked out my dog too)
the gardens are gonna be ok especially with the help we are getting, the garlic and veggies is all i can handle this year,so help is needed in the herb gardens.

annyway, hope the druy weather gets weter for you.
    peace

    Don't know what to say.

    This is so sad.

    Sending you good thoughts

    Hi there Frog

Perhaps we could organise an on line global garden show? As our crops are so diverse and varieties differ, then it would be really difficult for us all to be growing the same variety. I have garlic growing in my garden from cloves I have saved from the previous year. Ditto the shalotts. I can't remember what the variety is though. I just keep it going. Perhaps not too smart.

    Organic principles a MUST!

Did you ever do anything with getting kids involved with gardening from local schools?

I am for that I've got some pictures I took of my tomato plant earlier. Not sure I want to share a picture of my bell pepper. The deer keeping chomping on it every time it gets a chance to grow a little. I'll start a thread maybe tomorrow.
