Im helping a friend de-clutter his basment and we had the idea of making it into a room for triping... we are going to completely empty the whole place and its pretty big! I just dont know how to decorate it to make it ideal for tripping... the walls are white and its too big to paint so thats out of the question, its got white tiles on the floor... what do u guys recomend. well have some cabbinets, tables, n stuff to put things on (like a stereo...) some chairs and MAYBE a sofa and an arm chair...

what should i put on the walls? ceiling? what about carpets? lights? posters?materials? mirrors? objects? anything that is good for tripping... or should i keep it as empty as possible?

My friends dad had a tripping room once. I'd say you need a bed or couch to lie down, a source of music, lava lamps, a mirror (maybe with curtains so you can cover it if it scares you, and I'd have some trippy/glow in the dark posters on the wall. you don't want it to be overwhelming though. For me I'd have some deity/buddha statues and a tibetan prayer wheel. I'd also suggest some art and poetry available.

dude thats a wikid idea...might have to make one in mi shed...maybe get some uv paint and splash it over some of the walls...would definitely recommend senseis idea of some sort of religious icons...instead of a sofa id go with like a turkish bazar type thing, like big soft cushions which u can just lie on...if you had lotsss of dosh it would be great to go for the whole kesey acid test thing with the projectors displaying hundreds of frames of the craziest shit you can imagine...bit much to spend though x x x

make sure you put a mirror on one wall, on the wall facing that wall put another mirror, of the same dimention. Make sure the mirrors are perefectly lined up to eachother.

it all depends on what you'd like.

for me, given a large space, i'd have a few mattresses, a ton of pillows, smoking paraphernelia, a mirror of course, an alter, a big ashtray with a koh incense burner, a stick incense burner, plenty of tapestries, or else collage the room with cutout pictures from magazines and newspapers. a few potted plants would be nice, and perhaps a well maintained fishtank. i'd avoid any furniture with legs or anything that takes you up off the ground....beanbags for chairs, floor cushions, and mattresses on the floor with blankets and pillows would be ideal. carpet remnants can be had for cheap and it would certainly be a good idea to pad the floor with some form of carpeting. since its in a basement i would recommend a few space heaters for colder months. candles may be a good idea, if you're not the type to knock them over.

soft but sufficient lighting is key. definitely no bare lightbulbs. a dehumidifier may be important for making a basement comfortable.

if you really want to make it a comfortable place to trip, it may require a lot of effort and a decent amount of cash, so i wouldnt advise you to go too overboard if its not a house or condo that he owns...if its a rented townhouse or something, then you might as well just put in the bare essentials and make it a smoking lounge, and save tripping in general for the more comfortable areas of the home, like the living room or bedroom.

i definitely would agree that a nice mirror or two is important. thats often why i spend so much time in the bathroom when tripping, so i can look into my own eyes and get lost. this is when the few real visuals i get usually occur, because i'm not too prone to OEVs. but with a mirror i can sit and be calm, and stare deep into my own eyes and allow the rest of myself to be seen in the periphery. i then go into a kind of psychedelic/meditative trance, and my mind isnt as likely to assosciate my reflection with my ego, and it is as if i'm looking into the eyes of another, and this other takes new shapes and new forms, with only my eyes remaining the same....my form changes into those of benevolent "monsters" of avian, reptilian, or other types...its really quite interesting to watch, but it tends to work best if i do not look directly at anything other than the eyes....

but i digress. i know a lot of people dont enjoy looking at themselves in mirrors when tripping, so the curtains may be an elegant solution to this.
