I recently found out that only 26% of america votes, and then by using reason we find that only 13.5% or more actually choose who leads this country. Talk about a load of bullcrap!

I think its about time amercans start exposing "democracy" for what it really is.... a bullshit concept used as a weapon to attack those who do not rule by a 13.5% decision.

I wonder how many Palestinians voted in the election that elected Hamas into power?

We can complain about how few vote, or complain how voting is useless because they manipulate the results to suit the agenda. But it does no good. Some friends of mine have been hatching a plan to use this lack of interest in voting to their advantage. Think smaller. In a small town, the county seat here, only 150 people voted at all in the last municipal elections. So we figure, get someone REAL who would appeal to the younger generation who is destined to leave this area for greener pastures because there is nothing here for them, someone who is willing to run for office (mayor...) and spend months recruiting and registering NEW and YOUNGER voters. In the last election, the new mayor won with 83 votes. All a person would have to do is get 100 people to vote for them! These small scale "takeovers" could happen all over the USA with enough interest. THAT is how you create change, a little at a time.

I don't understand your point. American voters are lazy so democracy's a joke? Cmon, there's a lot to criticise about democracy, but that's a really weak argument.

Well one of the pros of democracy is that if you don't want to you don't have to vote, and in presidential elections, which would also mean every other congress, turnout is normally around 55%

I guess that's one reason why democracy is a joke. But seriously, I felt the same way for a LONG time. And I still do. I've only voted once in my life and I was so pissed when I left the voting place, I never went back. It seems, and up until the internet finally began actually TELLING people, most folks didn't know that if you register "independent" then you are ONY allowed to vote for "independents" during the primaries. Same thing for Dems and Repubs. This was not common knowledge then and it still is not talked about much. Between that and the electoral college, AND the fraudulent elections, the entire voting process is a scam.

BUT, for some reason, I suddenly find that there are some folks running that I think it's REALLY important to support. I know how the game works now. So I'll register accordingly. I will also make sure others know how to do it.

Our votes may very well mean nothing as far as who wins the elections. BUT, I am looking at all these votes as MAKING A LOUD STATEMENT.
We actually have an OPTION to voice our opinions about the heavy issues this time around. Many times in the past, there was not much option, as most of the candidates were just greater or lesser versions of the same thing. Voting for the lesser of evils. NOW, we don't HAVE to vote for evil. Even if the elections are totally rigged and Hillary wins (bitch!), the powers that be will KNOW in no uncertain terms that THE PEOPLE disagree. They NEED to see the numbers. They need to understand just how UNINTERESTED folks are in their game. I know they already have some idea, but if say 85% voted for an anti-war and anti big government candidate, then they would REALLY know it.

I also think that if one of the only REAL candidates wins the vote and then one of the ALIEN FREAKS ends up in office due to vote fraud, three's a charm and this may be the spark that ignites some radical changes. And it seems to be the one thing that keeps folks "in their place" is that things simply are not BAD enough yet. But if THIS election is obviously stolen, things COULD get bad enough for folks to put their collective feet down, and say enough is enough...
So, I'd say, get registered, pay no attention to "parties" just register in whichever "party" you need to to vote for your favorite GOOD GUY, get others to do the same, and go speak your mind. Then see what happens next. Being involved has a better chance of getting something accomplished than NOT getting involved.

Democracy is the most silly ideal of the capitalistic society because it makes you feel free but you are not, you can choose do you want to go to school but you must go because if you don't go you'll be fighting to survive. You can think what you want but you must think that this society is the best society, if you think diferentlu you are the devil you are the antyhuman beeing, you are the bad boy who needs to be resocialised
yes we are free or not

There should be a harsh vote tax, if you don't vote you pay something like 10% of your income after taxes.

I'm sure you'd get 100% of the people voting then.

Seriously, people don't understand that forceful government is the only way to go, god damnit.

The system in the U.S., like in Canada is you have low voter turnout and the politicians know it, so they organize their support and make it strong and loyal, political offiliates make up at least half of the vote, the other half of the vote are the idiot voters who don't understand politics and are easily swayed.

In the U.S. and Canada getting 51% of the vote doesn't mean you win neccesarily because you need the " seats ".

Politicians also know this well so liberals and conservatives have loyal ridings ( in Canada that's what our seats are called, we have 308 of them ) and so you can have near a third of the seats being toss up, meaning parties try to sway votes, but then you also have the loyal seats which are usually blowout polls that guarantee parties certain number of seats.

Sometimes when controversy can be exploited, the sure losers of some seats ( ridings ) try to sway enough of the idiot vote to counter the loyal vote, that's why you have ridings ( seats ) that get constantly 90% one party's votes and then one election it's 60% for another party, and you later find out that coincidentally the voter turnout was about 30% higher that year, hmmmmm.

Technically this isn't a democracy at all. We call it a republic. Representation of the people in other words. Point of fact the reason only a small percentage of Americans vote is because they are distracted by flashing lights and consumer politics. By which i mean corporations pay off the senators to go on expensive vacations and vote for pork-barrel laden legislation with corrupt provisions hidden in them that make exploitation of the uneducated masses possible. Thus people feel voting has no purpose they all are convinced that government regulates itself. We as citizens are supposed to be doing the regulating by voting and holding constitutional conventions to make necessary changes as we the people see fit.

Making inferences from the US about all democracy isn't really conclusive.
