Its still fairly early, less than 60 days before the election. Opinions can change radically in the course of 2 months.
After the Democratic Convention, if there was a bump in in polls favoring the Dems, it was barely a blip on the radar screen.
I think by Monday or Tuesday we should have a clearer view if there was such a post Convention bump.

Just reread my previous post. Bad wording on my part. Its not as early as I had thought. I'm afraid the Election season is upon us. Rather than edit the post, thought I would leave it alone and write a second post.

Still...there is still enough time for opinions to change. I don't give too much credence, yet, to opinion polls.

well, not to a time magazine poll. don't get me wrong, i love the magazine, but i don't think they have the same stringent works as other pollsters. i think they're good for a quick look, but i wouldn't rely very heavily on their results.

One thing to keep in mind is that John Kerry has only spent half his advertising budget so far and is spending the other half during these last 2 months before the election.

Still it's perplexing, after the most heavily protested convention in history, Dubya still shoots up in the polls!

I need to start a new thread asking what do the Bush supporters want?

lol. it's fairly simplistic thinking. they just don't want kerry. whatever else may happen, just make sure it isn't kerry. it's kind the same, i noticed, with a lot of kerry supporters. they just don't want bush. whatever else may happen, just make sure it isn't bush.

I really believe Kerry is going to lose - in fact, it seems to me that he is actually TRYING to lose. Either that, or he is a fool. With George Bush probably the most hated public figure in american history, and the Iraq occupation so incredibly unpopular - and literally MILLIONS of antiwar folks absolutely desperate for someone to speak out against Bush, all Kerry has done is bleat about how he would have voted to invade Iraq even without WMD's and say that he'll solve the situation by increasing the troops in Iraq. What a complete moron.

Kerry should have taken the high ground - he should have called the Iraq invasion exactly what it was - an immoral war based on LIES. He should have talked about fighting the real "war on terror" and talked about changing US foreign policies. He should have attacked Bush where he was weakest. If he had done that, people like myself probably would have turned out in droves to support him. Now we'll be at home - or voting for Nader - because Kerry's made it clear that he's no alternative to Bush at all.

well, even the time poll, amongst the rest of the issues, shows a much closer race.

it's a scary time! bush has more power over the media than kerry. it's always that way with a fascist take-over. the media makes the president.

I am deeply concerned. I am thinking of moving to Canada.

...and who is pulling the strings that pull the media's strings?

The handful of corporations who own all the mainstream press and media.

Btw: if anyone wants their preconceptions of what they have always been conditioned to believe about the nature of corporate control and just how extensive and amoral the corporate structure truly is, I strongly encourage you to watch the 3 hour documentary, The Corporation.

http://www.thecorporation.tv/ (for more info on the documentary)

Itll hit you in the pit of your stomach if you have any sensibilities at all.

Bush has special status with the corporate media, no doubt. They were bashing away at Clinton every day, but they protect Bush. I can't recall any of the corporate news stations ever criticizing Bush about anything.

What happened with the groundbreaking ceremony that Bloomberg held on the first day of the RNC convention? That was supposed to be a big event but the media didn't even cover it. I thought Bush was supposed to be there, but they must have changed their minds.

All I heard in the media was that Bloomberg accidentally used the word 'tombstone' instead of 'cornerstone' during the dedication ceremony.

I wonder if Bush will be at the 911 site for the 3rd anniversary or if he and the corporate media will just stay silent about it. If he comes, there could be more protests in NY.

thats not very suprising... i think bush will win, i see ads for him on tv all the time, and those veterans ads seem to be fairly effective upon the general public. i just started seeing ads for kerry a day or two ago, and i have to say, they were shitty... i doubt they will change anyones opinion.

rarely if ever is war moral or righteous...

Sadly Willow, therein lies the problem. Yes people like yourself would have supported him but many more would have turned away from him in droves. Fahrenheit 9/11 is an appropriate term because far too many people in this country suffer from 9/11 fever and the war on terrorism is the dominant issue, bigger than the economy, Iraq, and Bush’s lies. Kerry would have been attacking Bush where he’s strongest, not weakest.

Yes Kerry has said he would have voted to invade Iraq even without WMD's and that he'll increase the troops in Iraq. And yet he’s losing ground primarily because he’s perceived as being soft on terrorism. Kerry states that terrorism can better be fought with improved intelligence networks developed with the cooperation of other countries, made possible by building better relations with those countries, and for this Zell Miller accused him of wanting to outsource our national security, and the convention crowd cheered wildly! Apparently there’s a major shift in this country toward the belief that it’s time for America to go it alone. I know you’ll say that America has been going it alone for some time now, ignoring world opinion and the UN, but my point is that more and more Americans want it that way. They don’t understand the difference between independence and isolation. All they seem to understand is that we’re under attack and that we must fight back uncompromisingly.
