I was never brought up around other cultures besides Welsh, and some English. Although I was always taught to respect other people, and their beliefs and culture.

My grandparents, who were brought up in a different generation, weren't racist at all and still called black people 'coloured' which may be offensive to some people now. They consider the term 'black' to be more offensive than the term coloured...Well, atleast my Nan does.

    (This has no relovence)

It's a shame that people aren't taught like that over here, but then, there's no respect over here.

I don't really believe she's racist. I think she's a classic example of a posh upper middle class kid/bird, just to offend, who's been watching too much TV and thinks it's hip and street to use such words, Quentin Tarantino films come to mind. She hasn't got a clue what she really thinks and doesn't realise that it is utterly offence and a good word to use if you intend to make a meaty racist remark, obvs to us.

For me if I could chop her and her kind up into bits I gladly do it (upper middle class bastards and aristocracy). Has anyone seen SAW (another American film)? Joking of course; or am I?

I agree with you. It wasn't really what I'd consider to be racism...unless we classify it by what is known as "lazy racism".

I do feel sorry for the girl, she obviously wasn't being malicious, but she had to be used as an example by Endemol considering everything that happened back in January.

Just watched the incident and the following behaviour. Though as you say it may be "lazy racism" it is still unacceptable and was obviously felt as such by the recipient, sure a transcript of her words wont say as such but her behaviour and facial expressions show her discomfort at someone talking to her in such a fashion.

Lesson, unless your down in the hood don't use racialy aggressive language,

obviously it's not like that everywhere here. but when you're living in a military house and your commanding officers are of other innumberable races, it's necessary to treat people with respect. and you have to make sure your kids do, too.

Funny you should say that ... my husband has a black friend and he always greets hims "what's up nigga" and his friend answers back "nothing cracker, what's up with you?"

My ex-husband who was black had a good white friend (also his boss) who was totally blonde haired and blue-eyed with German heritage (seriously) and my ex would greet him "how's it hangin' honky (insert cracker, aryan boy, etc)" and he'd say "how's it hangin' , nigga". Hell those two frequently in business meetings make everyone uncomfortable as my ex would joke about suing on basis of race and his friend would tease him about being lazy cos he's black. They were good friends, and they knew they were jesting with each oher about things.

****** has always been a word with horrible contexts around it, and in the past especially it was used in derogatory manners.

Now however, I feel the same word can be used as a sign of respect and comraderie.

It is once again all about context. A word is just a word, it is how you use it that matters.

As far as BB is concerned, I don't think Emily meant anything by saying it. She was stupid to have said it on BB because of what happened before. I understand why the producers chose to take her out of the house, but feel that it's a matter of them under-reacting last time and over-reacting this time. I honestly think it made Charley (the girl that the word was used toward) feel worse at the fact that Emily was taken out of the house because of it than if she'd been left in and they all gotten a chance to talk about it. It wasn't a volatile situation and no one meant anything horrible at the time.

One does not have to be horrible to be rascist, in fact they could be the sweetest people alive, all you need is an awareness of superiority by race and a collection of derogatory words. You don't even need to mean anything with the words, all one does with their use is attempt to realise the racial superiority trip.

I'd say that goes for the black girl as well.

I think how lithiums wants it to be - is how american rappers and filmakers wish it to be.
That does not mean that their rationale is right.
We are about 5 years out of date of Americans - so it does not suprise me that the way we are influenced is sometimes even not the way the US reacts to this word.

well in the early 60s if I had said you were black that would be like saying ****** it wasnt socially acceptable people were coloured or negro , I actually remember people saying not to call people black as it was rude .

I think this whole situation is crap and really they shouldnt have people with different skin or hair colour in the same house, because if I was on it and someone called me white or say refered to someones ginger hair I would ask for them to be kicked off the show .

****** as I have pointed out comes from the word black in latin .
back in the 1920s you had people refer to a great ****** team if people were playing africans it may have been used as a insult at times ,but often it wasnt and just meant black

why doesnt it make no difference if one bunch of people are really shocked to hear someone called black shouldnt we throw everyone off the show who does that ?,
this was the case in the early 1960s and may well still be the case today with some people for all I know .

gangster rappers spend all their time calling each other nigga isnt this the same thing as people calling each other black in the 1960s and are you people just behind the times .

Ive asked a few times how about if she said negro would that be ok and why , why would someone be kicked off a show for saying black but not kicked off a show for saying white or ginger this isnt a joke Im being serious and I expect a serious answer because at the moment this seems racism towards the white girl

because ****** doesn't just mean black, i don't care what it's origin is. ****** has been packed with a wealth of horrible discrimination, a history of hatred and marginalization that that white girl will never have an grasp on. she knows DAMNED WELL that white strangers have no right to toss around a word like that. i KNOW he mom taught her that, unless her mom is of the "the only good ****** is a dead ******" set, behind the scenes at home. black people throwing that word around is their business, and it's contentious within their own groups.

It might not be fair - it might only be a policy of BB - but the point is She knew the policy of BB and broke the rules. So having a philosophical debate about a BB policy might be ok - but we are noit going to alter anything.
I think they could have left her in after a discussing the situation with both her and charley.
The truth imho is that it would have been revealed at a later date.
The commonly held opinion is that the word is offensive and is unacceptable.
So to stop a ''supposed'' ''cover up'' they had to kick her out.
