Well, I asked my mom about going barefoot to the park this morning and she said something like: "It's your feet. Just remember that if you step on something, you won't be able to play baseball. That's why I never went barefoot, I just didn't think it was worth the risk." I think it is worth the risk. Going barefoot kicks ass, whether you're conservative, liberal, communist, fascist, or anarchist. I'm just about to go to the park barefoot again. Against my mom's advice... We'll see if it's as great as last time.
Heh, my parents caught me yesterday and lightly teased me. My mom said, "Oh, he's out cutting his feet up!" jokingly, and my dad and sister said they used to go barefoot when they were kids... So I went barefoot outside a ton yesterday Definite change of pace this time, a little decrease in morale today... It was cold and I had homework today, so I stayed inside while my parents went for a walk. My mom came in with a broken glass bottle and said, "See this? This is why you shouldn't be out walking around barefoot." I went along with it, and it made me think... But going barefoot is so great... I'm torn.
is there broken glass out there or other things to step on/in ? yes. but just be careful and keep your eyes open. I've been barefooting all my life, I'm 50, and I've never had problems. above all else, enjoy life.
Heh, still going barefoot outside (when my parents aren't looking). Sometime soon, I'll go with them knowing, against their advice... I'll have to at some point... What's funny is how much more you can feel after you've gone barefoot. As I said, the carpet is softer, the tile feels better... Everything is amplified! Plus it feels great while you're actually in the act of going barefoot. I don't think my parents can stop me when it's warm out like it is now!!
So what? I see broken glass on the ground all the time. I never even divert my step; somtimes I run among it full-speed (there's glass at the train station sometimes, especially after the weekends, and I am not a morning person so I'm frequently in a hurry ). I get a tiny splinter maybe once a year, never had a cut. When I recycle bottles, I leave my bicycle a few steps from the recycle bin and walk up to it. Glass is not as dangerous, and our feet are a lot tougher, as most people think! Just don't shuffle your feet, shuffling/dragging your feet you could tear your feet open on a jagged rock while a piece of glass just laying on the ground won't penetrate your callouses if you step on it straight.
take your socks and shoes off run round your front yard and announce to the world in a loud voice that your a barefooter. worked for me.
I have seen broken glass in the park... But only in certain areas, especially ones where the grass has gone bald, and around 2 particular trees. that's about it. I just stay away from those areas. We've had some crappy weather lately, so I haven't gotten to betray my shoes for a while, but I did today for about a half hour. Great half hour, one of the better ones so far in my life.
Yea, just do it at ur own pace - dont rush urself or anything...just take it step by step, and as soon u feel confident about barefooting somewhere, go for it (o and i recommend u bring some easy slip-on shoes in case u get nervous if someone sees you). Good luck
I was home alone today, so I decided to bring a key and go out for a walk actually ON THE SIDEWALKS today, barefoot, not carrying shoes... I only went to secluded residential streets, and only one car drove by (thank God) and I couldn't tell if they were staring or what, but they had a weird look on their face. (maybe it was in my head  ) It's really hot today, so crossing the road SUCKED. It was really hot so I hurried across it and now I have a kind of sore spot on my right foot. Totally worth it, though!
Went a little longer this time, actually carrying sandals. Last time I burned my feet a little bit and that hurt like a bit.. oops, dog, and I didn't want to over-do it again. Much nicer this time because the pavement was cooler. I plan soon to go without them all the way, but not without a little conditioning.
Sounds Like Your Going About It The Right Way........Nice And Slow Is Best.......Remember All Of Us On This Forum Had To Start From Scratch.......Good Luck And Keep Us Posted.
This thread is so strange to me o.o Ive never looked at walking around without shoes on as a transition people have to make. Essenceofweez, you make it sound like its the weirdest, unnatural thing to not wear shoes xD
Dude, try being raised by a family of shoddies. You have to experience it to understand... I see no rhyme in the reason...
there are people who this it is the strangest thing in the world not to want to wear shoes. I am/was very strong willed. My family was pretty much like that but they knew it was futile to force the issue of my going barefoot and that goes for the aunts, uncles and cousins. they think it is weird. I think it is really cool and "brave" of essenceofweez to buck the trend of this famly and go barefoot. Keep going barefoot my man.
Lots of barefoot time today. I went about 40% of one walk and 60% of another! It's funny how our sidewalk is like a patchwork: some concrete is new, some is old. The new stuff is great, it's lightly colored and soft, so it's kind of like warm tile or something. People didn't even notice that I was carrying my shoes. They were all so friendly.
Fuck! A couple of days ago, I guess I overdid it on the hot sidewalks or something because I got a huge fucking blister/callous thing on my right foot that was 2 inches long. It's getting healed, so I took of the dead skin today and now the spot is really sensitive. It's like having a hole in your sock when you're barefoot. Damn. I didn't go barefoot much more than I had previously! I don't know why I got burned this time... It gave my mom another reason why I shouldn't be "walking around barefoot"....... Doesn't matter. I'll just be more careful next time.
Don't worry. This happens only at the beginning. Soon your feet will toughen up and you will never have this problem again.
