i know i've posted elsewhere about the wonderful deliciousness of masoor dal, but i really think it is the food of the gods. i was in such a cranky mood today until i cooked up a pot of lentils and chilies, and now i'm happy as a clam. most people think of curry when they think of indian food, but i'm a big fan of dals, or legume dishes, ladeled over bread or chapatis. masoor dal is pink lentils. i cook it with garlic, chilies, and black mustard seed, ladel it over a whole wheat chapati, and drizzle on melted ghee with cumin seeds and red pepper powder. oh man, it's the yummiest thing in the world, and cheap too! spread the love! make some dal and share it with friends!
i know i need to do that. legumes generally don't aggree all that well with my intestines, although lentils are pretty much of an exception. i've even got a couple of bags of them and a slow cooker. i just don't ever seem to get arround to it. and i'm not even real sure why. well right now i don't have any onions or garlic or chillies in the house. maybe the next time i do, if i remember to ... my staple, what i make all the time, is soups, with noodles and lemon squizinz and whatever else is handy that my taste visualization likes the combination of. usually meat or shrooms and then a few other things. =^^= .../\...

In my simple lifestyle household, we just call it "lentils and rice", which we almost always cook together. I usually cut up a couple of carrots and an onion, and add them right before done. Some simple seasonings and soy sauce and nutritional yeast, and it is the most delicious meal. Simple and easy and nutritious.
