Me - to be honest i'm not far off that anyway. I don't think it would be a major stretch to become a full vegan. I'm a vegeterian and have been for quite some time - so removing EVERY animal product would not be too much to do. Would others ? no way. ''Fast food'' is not bad for you - it is only if you eat it a LOT. People appreciate that - being told NOT to eat ''fast food'' is condescending.
Wrong. Because of intensive farming techniques, most of the minerals have been leached out of the soil. Therefore, even eating "healthily" (and the majority still have this bizarre perception that meat and dairy products are "good for you") you cannot get all the requisite minerals from food alone. Vitamins as well, as plants need minerals to make vitamins, animals need plants containing vitamins and minerals to make other vitamins, etc. So until the goodness is ploughed back into the soil (and for the time being, organic is the way to go. It's better, but still FAR from ideal), we're stuck with needing supplements. And if you get the right kind of supplements, chemicals do NOT go into their manufacture. Good vitamins and minerals, in a form that is absorbable by the body, come from plant extracts. Examples of bad vitamins/minerals: anything attached to an inorganic molecules, e.g. oxides, carbonates, dioxides, sulphates, nitrates etc. Good ones are: amino acid chelate, chelate, citrate, etc. basically, avoid Holland & Barrett
OKEYYYY everything that passes a medical assessment AKA prescribed from your doctor (someone said they use meds) has to go through testing and that means animal testing still. All drugs that get the national mark have to be tested in this way. Even drugs from say holland and barrat proberly do - other health shops test on animals but they like making money!
People here actually read The Daily Mail?!?!?! I am a vegetarian, but what everyone else does is their own choice. We cannot change an entire planets eating habits.
I'm not arguing that pharmaceuticals aren't bad for the environment - in fact I hate the fucking things. It's vitamins and minerals that aren't. They don't have to be tested on animals, just with chemical assays to determine if they contain what they say they do, and in the amounts they say. There are no stated effects - studies have shown that thus-and-so happens if you take vitamin whatever, but the manufacturers can't say "Vitamin C: cures cancer! restores skin tone! Kills colds!". All those and more have been SHOWN with research, but vitamins are not drugs. And yeah, Holland and Barett probably DO test on animals - the point is, REPUTABLE and decent vitamin companies don't.
We arte like pigs; omnivores. I can understand that in modren living the prdocution of meat maybe immorla but o tbe a vegan is to sit next to satan. He is killing you you fucking morons!
Humans need meat for Iron. But anyway to prevent nuclear war of the verbal kind. I do like vegie food. If there is some plan to turn me vegie, I hope we can still have a chance to go back if we start craving meat.
I am veggetarian, I have all the necassery things that are needed for a healthy body, iron can be found in most green salads including rocket and broccali. Protein can be found in nuts but more-so mushrooms which are the main source of protein for veggeis and are used in Quorn. Veggetariens also dont get fat as easily as meat has more as it has come from an animal, which contains large amounts of fat. The processing of meat is fuel wasting and is not very efficient, as only certain parts of the cow or pig are used. Animals are selectively bred so that they have good meat but a cow that has good meat will have poor hide, and so this hide will be wasted, the same appleis to an animal with good hide, the meat is wasted. Being veggei is easy, I have been so all my life, being a Bhuddist this is how I am and so I have no idea how hard it is to tear away from meat to a veggei or vegan diet. Forcing the country to go all veggei would be impossible. And if the choice was given to eat meat or veggei people would just not try it out and would stick with their meat. Also, if meat was a out-lawed, like illegal drugs, people would stil eat it. This is natural human behaviour as shown in The Prohibition in America, people carried on drinking alchohol despite the firm laws. I try to encourage people to veggetarianism, I managed to convert FreeWind about 3 months ago and still try but people are just plain stubborn. Well, thats all I have to say...
Encouraging or giving info is fine.. wouldn't like to be preached about it though if i was an omni and meh.. i went vegetarian cold turkey (boom boom) just over night kinda thing
Ive never seen this thread before, and after reading the first page or so theres nothing new here same old silly assumptions and misconceptions, every time. Im too tired to read properly, but for now, its strange how defensive some people are of their comforts...first mention of anything against a meal involving a big hunk of bloody meat and theyre screaming "theyre trying to take our meat away! Noooo!". "Next theyll be trying to turn the world VEGETARIAN!"" (said in a tone that implies vegetarianism is some kind of hideous disease) Heh, heh. Gives me giggles, tragic as the whole thing is Right, im off to bed
yeah, i've been wondering that too. as well as whatever happened to Moonhawk, and Freewind. Also Honeyfugle has been rather quiet, and I'm sure there are others. I looked into the UK group yesterday, and there were several names listed as members that made me think "whatever happened to them?"
i swear, i get so sick of hard core meat eaters. how much meat does one person NEED, really? my goodness. it's bizarre. my mother has gout, you know, the rich man's disease, because she ate such fatty rich meat three times a freaking day. mind you, she lived on a farm and they raised cattle, as well as corn, soy, alfalfa, etc. but still, the things people do to their bodies. i'm not anything near a vegan or a vegetarian, but still, sometimes people ASTOUND me in the sheer amount of animal products they consume.
