It really does me head in..

Was at work at the Vet Clinic the Friday just gone and this woman brings her dog in while the Vet was up at the house so I had a bit of a chat to her and the conversation went to how one of her neighbours was moving out of state and had two dogs that she wanted to leave behind. One was very elderly and and the other was still quite young.
Instead of finding new homes for her dogs the woman gets both of them put to sleep..

Now I really think that it was a very stupid descision on her behalf. She could of found them both a home each if she really tried.

I dont believe you should give any animal a youthanasia unless you really have to, only if its in the animals best interests and of there is absolutely no other option.

What do you think?

 

I have a friend who works at a veterinary hospital and it really bothers me when she tells me stories similar to the one you conveyed. I find it hard to believe that people can consider any animal nothing more than a disposable object which they can throw out when it no longer fits their lifestyle. I truly believe there is a special hell for these people and that eventually their karma will catch up to them in absence of a conscience and compassion.

I also dislike it so much when people look at breeds like the pitbull, shar pei, mastive etc and assume that they are a bad breed because they are 'fighting breeds'. That was bred into them, not every single dog of that breed is going to try and bite your head off.

When I was telling the woman what kind of dog I had (Shar pei crossed Mastive) her reaction was too look at me sympathetically and say that it must be a terror to control...

And I told her straight out that NO! she's one of the most friendliest dogs I've ever come across.

Such is life I guess, you'll always get people like that. It just bugs me so bad.

 

Just hearing that brings tears to my eyes.

I used to have a crazy (literally) dog named Lady. She was my best friend. I remember when I first saw her, I hated her. She wasn't a puppy, and she was yelping like a wild beast. My mom had just bought her and brought her up to me and I guess I had a disgusted look on my face cuz my mom asked if I wanted them to take her back. I was 5 at the time, I believe. I was about to say "Yeah" when she jumped up and licked my face all crazily. I fell in love then.

We had her for 8 years. One time a boy was chasing me around our yard, she saw it, and she bit the kid right in the butt. We had to go show his mom she had her rabies shots, but I always loved her for that. That kid was a jerk and used to stick dandelions in my mouth. She would fart alot, and we would yell at her each time. After awhile she would fart, look at her butt all scared, then run out of the room before anybody said anything. You couldn't take her for walks because she would choke herself on the leash. She took care of the kittens when our cats had them. She'd pick them up with her teeth gently, then carry them over to a corner of the room and clean them.

In her old age she started to get mean to neighborhood kids and would bark and growl and bite at them. Never at us, just others. She was completely neurotic. We were going to move very soon, and we couldn't keep her. We gave her to the Animal Shelter and they said they would try to find a home for her, but it would most likely not happen because she was mean to everyone but us.

I know in my heart she never found a home. I know she got put down.

It kills me to hear that someone did that to their animal for no fucking reason. Have these people no souls? It seems to me that people just use animals. Use them for love and comfort and companionship and then when the going gets tough they just abandon that source of comfort. They take them for granted.

I think of Lady almost every day and it's been 7 years since we had to let her go. I just don't understand people.

Sorry I got a little sidetracked, I'm feeling nostalgic tonight, and she was my favorite.

 

Yeahm it annoys me. When i was younger this old woman lived opposite us (well, i say old, she was probably only about 60...but she didnt treat herself well) Anyway she had this litle back yard, kept guinea pigs in it, rats, mice, rabbits, birds (like peacocks) all kept together in a big wire cage, the place stank....

She used to HIT the GUINEA PIGS if they "misbehaved"...now is it just me or is that the stupidest thing? Its a tiny rodent! Anyway...

She also had 2 beautiful greyhounds in a tiny tiny cage. They sat in their own poop. If id have been an adult id have totally called the RSPCA, but i was just a shy kid at the time. She kept those dogs for about 7 years...they were friendly, i remember stroking them, they licked and wagged tails Anyway, she moved when i was about 11...and had them both put to sleep, even though they were youngish and well

What a cruel, thoughtless and unnecessary act of murder. I cried for those dogs when i found out.

and i think it is time you try to dress him a bit.
give him one glass of dry food a day and no more.
What happened to your cat is that he was brought up with a dog, and he think he is a dog, so he eat like a dog, and dogs often eat like pigs!
You just have to explain to him that he isa cat.
I have a cat who was raised with a dog, and he also made noise like a dog and sit like a dog and lay down like a dog with legs in front just as dogs do,.
I think that now he got it. that he is a cat. he doesnt bark anymore but miaw.
So thats better.
If he attacks you when he wants food, scream "sit down!" and see what happens. LOL!
DOnt bend for him when he wants fod. give him one glass and noting more. thats the normal dosis, you have over feed him for too long, time for him to go on diet..

 

I think humans dont have any rights over animals and that shooting cats and dogs is murder and they should be hang for doing this!
If they dont want the cat or dog, they should let them go, at least they will have one chance to survive.
If she was moving abroad she could take the animal with her anyway. it takes special vaccinations and papers but isnt impossibel or complicated.
animals are send from allcountries by airplanes everyday for zoo and pet shops, so why couldnt she do so??
It was mean and cruel. as for people having dogs in a cage i will beat them to death.
It is so unhuman and mean. thats worse than slavage.
why have animals and dogs if it is to keep them in a cage?
What a life for them!
That kind of thing makes me angry, and i think it should be forbidden by law to can keep dogs in a cage.
and if you dont live in the country side you cannot have pigs and that kind of animals.

 

Baby, you don't know my cat. I can fight, but If I got into a fight with him about food.. I think this cat could win. Yeap, chase my azz all around the house, kick my azz, and eat me alive. lol

got a cat, nana, who was mad at me once, cause the neigbourg upstairs got a male cat who went in the backstairs..
she just pie in front of all the doors, from groud to 5th floor, so he knew that was her playground and not his..and was so mad hteguy had to give back his new cat the day after!!!

She attacked me like it was my fault, and really a mad cat is dangerous, she bite my leg so strong, i was bleeding all over the place, couldnt go anywhere as hse bloked me, and had uge black mark for 3 months!
So i know it can be harsh., Was the alone time she ever did that, hse got out of her mind i guess.

I feed some of his food to a little cat that was outside and the damn thing bit me. Not that cat, my cat. Yeah, when I came in, he was ready for me. Mad as hell at me. lol

 

this cat is really jealous, and think that he owns YOU!

They are afraid of competition, that you might have taken a new member in..they never like it.
sometimes even 3 years later, they still fight, because the first one is the king and doesnt like newbees!
if you dont get them from start when they are little both, they will never accept, specially the oldest one.
I had one new, and he chassed the other one away! I didnt like it.
i prefered Odin to that other one, who was not nice at all and bite us.
Oding was right to dont want him in.
I made a mistake and regreted it a lot, cause Odin was such a diamond, so sweet so nice, perfect.

I thought the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals/Humane Society would take animals that people are unable to take care of them anymore? I see it on the animal cop shows all the time. Someone is neglectful so they're asked to sign the pet over and they will be looked after and found a new home...


I think the government needs to start funding these programs so they can make it illegal to euthenize animals needlessly.

 

And where does the government get their money? If they fund it, you and your fellow taxpayers will be the ones paying. If you feel that strongly that these programs should be funded, why not just give your money directly to the program and save the administrative costs of the government collecting it and doling it out? That way, you'll also know with certainty that the money went where you wanted.

 

That is horrible. One time my mother was at the vets and a man came in with a husky to have put to sleep. He was moving and the place didn't allow dogs. My mother told the vets she would take the dog and give her to her brother. We had to get the guy to sign a paper so the dog wouldn't be put to sleep. How stupid is that? He didn't want the dog, but we needed permission from him to take the dog. We spent a day and a half tracking the guy down. Finally found him just a few hours before she was put to sleep. About a half a year later she ran away and we never found her.

I wouldn't move if I couldn't take all of my animals with me. I would rather live in a carboard box than not have my animals.
