The whole no sex for Christians in a relatively new things in terms of religion and the church. If you look back in history Priests where allowed to have families and mistresses. This changed during the reformation and the establishment of the Protestant and Lutheran. At this point the Catholic church took a hard stance and this is when sex outside of marriage was frowned upon. When I get home I have some books on the subject that are really good reading and explain it a lot more about the changes in the church at that time.

It is quite funny that most religious people have no idea about the history of their religion. There is more than just the Bible. You have to look at what man has done through the ages to really understand religion today and how messed up things have become.

People indeed should control their natural sexual impulses and have sex in moderation.

What seems to be the problem is the concept of chastity and celibacy in the west, where people are bombarded with images of sex in the television, cinema, music, computer and beautiful sexy women in the streets. Sex seems to be all around him.

The christian fundamentalist wishes to make himself or herself celibate, in spite of all these sexual images, but she or he is only repressing herself or himself. Whatever you resist will persist. And this repression can result in serious problems , like neurosis , anger and frustration, and it can also lead to abnormal sexual behaviour as well. Just a few thoughts of mine on this subject.

I'm not prepared to stop whilst idiots like yourself express their suppoort for human rights abuses and child abuse, saying it can be 'spiritual'.

If that's your idea of 'spiritual' I would suggest you start again from scratch.

I had indeed presented my point on 'child abuse', and 'torture.'

And I have clearly said that whatever we do can be done in a spiritual way. It doesn't necessarily mean that one ought to do paedophilia or torture. A strong and pure character and intuitions will not allow that to come about.

Snake Sedrick's post deleted, and Sed banned because he said human rights abuses and child abuse can't be spiritual.

Fucking wierd idea of 'hippy' and 'frre speech' some people have.

Delete this too, and allow this facsit moron niranjan to continue if that suits your game. Frankly I care not.

But if you ban all your friends, you'll end up with only enemies.

Sed is a pal of mine too.

The stuff about torture being justifiable is what made the word facist spring to mind. I'm a long time member of Amnesty International, an organization dedicated to ending torture and human rights abuses globally, without any political affiliation.
Once you allow torture, you are on a very slippery slope indeed.

One will never put an end to abuses with more abuses.

Maybe you're not a facist, but just misguided, or haven't thought deeply enough about the issues involved around torture.

I'm also quite sure that many who regard the Gita as a sacred text would be appalled that you try to justify torture on grounds of some saying of Sri Krsna.

christians not only limmit & repress sexuality but love as well,
the whole notion of the 1 woman 1 man type love is so extremely restricting that it forces couplres into entirely loveless marriages just to keep up the appearance of normalcy.
i have 2 wives, the 2 in my sig pic & the love is absolutely unbelievable & unrestrained by typical christian values
    limmitting love..limmitting sex..limmitting joy
why is it they punnish themselves for every lil pleasure?
if the goal in life is to reach total happiness, then i won the race
& all the christians are back atthe starting line running in circles chasing after a halucination..

i truely believe that sex becomming an ugly thing in many eyes, perversions, rapes molestations are all a direct result of christian values trying to supress the natural spirituality of the sexual bond
sex, making love, opens you to eachother mentaly emotionaly & spiritualy
christians try turning that around into an evil act only done to procreate or to sin
you take something beautiful like the physical act of loving & throw a ugly label on it like sin shameful disgusting sooner or later that label will be embraced & expanded on..
ahh so this beauty is shameful? lets see just how shameful it can be, push the limmits
slap the christians in the face (even if you are 1) & its easy to stop thinking of love as love & think of sex as a dirty thing you do to some1 not a beauty u share

I doubt Skip is aiming for a world where you cant walk over the street as a pretty woman or dude without getting fucked because nobody can control their sexual impulses.

I fail to see anyone in this topic that has yet answered specifically to Skip's question with a real answer rather then some answer that pretty much ignores the question itself.

Krishna does not sanction torture. Lets get that straight.

You have to understand the context objectively and logically.

I abhor torture all right. But torture like war , at times , is a necessary evil.

Suppose you capture a guy of a terrorist organization, who is killing many innocent people. And this guy too is a ruthless killer. And it is imperative to get information and intelligence from him, in order to nab the other terrorists and to find their base as well.

No matter how much you ask politely , he tells u to get lost. And meanwhile , many other innocent lives are being lost by the hour, all which could have been avoided if this guy gives information and intelligence. Some of the innocent lives lost could be yours, or your wife or kids, just because this guy does not give info.

Under the circumstances , if torturing the guy will yield information, that can save numerous innocent lives , then I believe this is the right thing to do, logically. Not doing so is a sin, in my book.
However if there is other methods to extract information from him, through non-violence, then that should be employed first.

However if there is no other option ,then torture indeed should be done. And if you have any doubts on this, just picture your own wife or child being next on the terrorists hitlist in a matter of hours.

I am sorry if I am perceived as ruthless, but that sadly is the nature of the world, which is not utopian or something.

I wish to appreciate your noble sentiments and I bow down to it.

These are my thoughts on this.

And what I meant was that whatever we do can be done in a spiritual way. When we have a strong character , and follow our intuitions, I don't think we will become paedophiliacs or people who torture others.

i think its funny how we start talking about christians & sex & it suddenly changes to torture
    hahahahaha

sex is beautiful if you take it as a tantric, spiritual & emotional experience
it can only be torture when viewed & approached as a sinful or dirty thing, something you inflict on another

Although limiting sex could be seen as repressing it unnaturally, I think the goal aimed by christian religion is self control.

Can this be healthy? - well, it depends, if you repress your sexual tendencies when there is a internal strong emotional desire to have such closure with another human being, then yes it is unnatural.

If however, you are detached to such activities, then there is no reason for it to cause a major problem.

Why such a focus?- In my opinion, the focus again is on self control. With the control of one's senses, one can easily control his actions and achieve greater spiritual freedom.

"What does it do to the human psyche to be exposed to this continuous pressure to subvert/ignore ones own sexual impulses?"

This question is based on the presupposition that all human beings have strong sexual desires and ignoring them would put "pressure" on oneself. When in fact, this may not be the case at all.
The act of sex is just that, it is simply an act, if one does it over and over again, he becomes bound to continuously perform this act. This is due to what we call in vedanta: A vasana.

A vasana is a desire stemming forth from the attachment caused by a certain action to achieve a certain result. When one does not perform sexual acts frequently and finds a higher pleasure in spirituality and religion, then it should not really matter if one gives up sex or not. Therefore, in that case, it has no effect on one's psyche.

On a larger point, repressing sexual desires, or promiscuity- both of these extremes are the individual's choice and allowing both actions without judgement shows respect to individual's unbound freedom. When an institution imposes one of these at any certain amount of degree as a standard, it will lead to chaos. This ofcourse, is my humble opinion.

No, you don't. Some people just don't focus around sex as much as others. I know I don't worship sex as much as most men do. I mean I like it for sure. But it is on my mind way less then the average man and I am content to please myself rather than constantly be worried about when the next time I get laid will be.
