    An Endless War

Stuttering sirens scream through sunless streets

Where darkness feasts on sinful souls

Spinning through the swirling maze alone

On macadam painted in stains of spilled blood

Stagnant spirits are crushed into cold concrete

Only tranquilized by the seldom breeze

Anchored by sodden skin and weary knees

Shackled by empty vows that only disguise

The demise of a culture, devised by vultures

    Prescribed by the passers-by

Who cry false tears amongst unaware men

    Privately despising their public lives

    Justifying cyclical homicide on survival

Christened by blessed baths but soaked in sin

Looking within cavernous souls for an answer

Finally shedding their guises and realizing

The congregation was built on the blistered backs

Of the forceless masses, frightened by disorder

Persuaded by promises of more than this endless war.

This is a really great poem, superb imagery! I especially love the alliteration of the first line.

i really dig this. you have great control of language. it's gripping in the imagery and the way the piece flows. definitely one of the best things i have read on the forums.
