They come his way, He turns his head, But knows his fate, He'll soon be dead. They pull. They tug, He begins to cower, As his eyes find love, Amongst the others. A sea of death, The smell of hell, He passes through, And tries to yell. A scream, a cry, A whimper, a tear, He bleeds red blood, And feels true fear. But their hearts won't flinch, They throw him in, Alone and frightened- Let his journey begin. Electric brain, His head it swells, If he had a good memory- He'd think of one now. Darkness comes, But doesn't stay, Now he's upside down, There's been a mistake! Nobody cares, It's money they want, His cries, they are heard- Still they're beginning to cut. The pain it comes, And his eyes roll back, As he moves on down- The bloody track. His stomach bursts, He's tasting blood, He's wondering why, And he's still not numb. Limp and lifeless, With eyes still wide, His body trembles, As they strip his hide. Now, he's cold, And he's naked, With a still beating heart... What looks like a carcass, Is just life torn apart. He fades in and fades out, Then, finally....... He sleeps. A soul lost to a plate, As ignorance eats.
I'm a veggie too, so it must be my veggie-radar...we can smell each other from across the room you know. How do you catch a rabbit? Hide behind a bush and make a noise like a carrot. How do you catch a carrot? Hide behind a bush and don't make a noise like a rabbit.
Nice job of capturing the unseen emotions that go behind slaughtering animals for food!! I am a vegan and am particularly fond of such writing. I think the ending is very strong too.
Peacefulrevolution, I would reccommend just trying it out for a week or so...that's pretty much how I jumped into the whole idea/ lifestyle. I went from eating meat pretty frequently 2 years ago, to not at all now. It definitely should be a gradual transition that you are comfortable with. I remember just being hit with the idea and at first spitting it out and then just sort of giving it a chance...Peace.
I like the poem, I just think poems with a veggie or vegan stance come off a little preachy. It'd be like a Christian singing about how great his God amd his Jesus are, but with the intent of converting you.
I understand your point, however, this is reality-this does happen. I just want people to be aware of the pain and suffering that these factory farm animals endure. I know that I can't turn the whole world vegetarian, nor is that my intent. I'm actually preached at for being a vegetarian more than anyone I'm around is preached upon. At the very least, I just want people to think about where their meat is coming from, and hopefully they can start supporting one of the few family farms that we have left. Thanks, For the feedback everyone!
Damn This hamburger went wonderfully with that poem. I think I'll go finish my steak after I'm done with this burger though. Damnit! I forgot I gotta finish field dressing that goddamn deer, FUCK!
