    Hello,

I often have a dream that I can fly. ok, but it seems so real, as if the dream is giving me the ultimate reality of feeling what it is like to actually fly. I start by trying to lift off the ground and it is frustratingly difficult, but when I actually do lift up and FLY freely it is amazing, very very real. The height scares me as I rise so fast and high.

How can this be when I obviously have never had this feeling in reality???

I know that you can only dream what you have actually felt in reality.

So is it true? The phenonemon of actual human flight? The experience that we get in dreams, that what we have felt or can actually really do?

I would most appreciate your comments on this!!

    Thanks

    Carl

It's just one of them things. I know exactly what you're talking about but have no logical explanation; they're just dreams.

I think flying is a metaphor for something
in our waking life....like most dream images are...

These days I never dream of flying but did
    a lot when I was a child...

For me it was about "spreading my wings"
    and becoming free....

Dream interps are often about letting go of
the logical explanations and looking at the
    metaphorical meaning..

eg I often dream of a bomb going off or
some sort of explosion when I am about
to face an "explosive" situation in my
    waking life...

    they can be warnings...

I know the feeling you're talking about...It's really great, but I rarely have these dreams. You are very lucky that you have these dreams more regularly :D They're so uplifting *pun!*

    It's true.
Since i can remember, i'm dreaming about flying. It's so so real....that to me the most shocking is when i wake up in the morning and discovered that i can't fly. The day i dream about it is a strange day cause i still have that feeling and it's like, shit, i can't fly.......
    But, what's the meaning?

Well...Not exactly. Ive had dreams where ive jumped off of cliffs (lol), and the sensation of falling off the cliff was present, even though ive never jumped off a cliff in reality o_O

Perhaps its because you can guess what it would feel like, and your mind recreates it in your dreams  I dunno...

Anywho, ive had dreams such as this when I was younger to.

There was one instance where id dreamt of falling out of the cieling above my bed, and I woke up the instant I hit my bed in the dream...It actually felt as if id fallen into my bed o.o You know what I mean?

It was a sort of seamless transition from dreaming to a waking state, and I felt all the sensations and what.

i still remember a strange dream of flying when i was a kid. I am pretty sure though that it was the feeling of vertigo that i was experiencing, rather the the feeling of flying (i cannot know how it is since i am not a bird).

Astral Projection and Out of Body Experience account for flying in dreams.

As to the meaning, the difficulty trying to get off the ground mirrors one's frustrations in life, with flying being synonomous for trying to get away from our problems, trying to get away from responibility; flying means freedom.

Not completely true, as some dreams can point to past life experiences or prophecy - seeing future events. It's when we dream something which we have no conscious knowledge of, when we haven't experienced it, haven't seen it, haven't touched it, haven't tasted it, haven't smelled it, haven't heard it - that it makes the most impression. How do you answer someone who says that it is all part of the brain when there is no prior experience? This points to the validity of the dream and the dream state.

I have just realised that there can only be one logical explanation of actually knowing how it feels to fly, or to feel experiences in dreams that we have never, or at least can't remember that we have never experienced them in real life. When we were BABIES!!! I have a 7 month old baby and the answer came to me! I often pick her up and do flying motions with her, not to mention the baby bouncers etc. These are the experiences we forget as babies, those wonderful motions that reappear in our dreams throughout our childhood and adult life. That has got to be the answer don't you think!!

Ahh, I love dreams about flying.

The feeling is incredible- its like I've already experienced what it feels like to be a human and fly around, though I was only dreaming.

Once I had a dream I had just started levitating, and after experimenting with it was flying full force- superman style. I flew back to my hometown in Arizona (I live in NY now) and was just sailing about the homes of loved ones and close friends, soaring down those boulevards where I spent my childhood... amazing.

Thats absurd, of course we can dream stuff we havn't experienced!
I do it all the time. Oh and congrats to the guy who jumps off cliffs :) Ive had my fair shae of that, but now it no longer hurts my knees.

Ive had these kinds of dreams too, usually happen when Im really well-rested or tired, they are very real and it can be hard to distinguish reality from dream. Id enjoy the experience! Its fun flying in dreams. Its also common for me to be frustrated when trying to lift off, just imagine yourself floating up and u will float up, from there you can start gliding and then actually "propell" yourslef foward.
Also if you want to go somewhere random, get on a freeway, run as fast as you possibly can (possibly even fasster than reality like me) and then jump into the air, immediatly after that start putting all of your thought into speeding up or you will hit the concrete, then you will have blurs around you and you will practicly warp to a new location. Also, when you come out of it you may still have your inertia, it may take you lots of time to stop, one time I ripped up chunks of the freeway because I came down so hard lol.

Well there's really no difference between dreams and reality. Both are your mind creating experiences which seem real at the time. If you've had a dream about flying, how can you say you can't fly? You can remember flying as well as you can remember you can walk. The only reason you can't is because you don't think you can.

You see, your mind edits information extensively, to fit its preconceived beliefs. You believe you can walk, so you don't have any trouble with it. If you truly believed you could fly, you could do that too. You could lift off the ground just as easily as you can walk without falling down. The only limits to possibility are the ones we place on ourselves, because we believe in limits.
