I'm sure they don't care because if the people ever realise that the democratic voting system doesn't work (due to rigged elections and such) and try to really stand up and do something, the government will crush them just like the Chinese did to their own citizens at Tiananmen Square.

if you think anyone's going to "shut the hell up" just because NYPD breaks the law - that's right, the cops broke the law with the vast majority of those arrests- you're deluding yourself.

this is according to a NY Times article:

average amount of time arrested protestors were held in filthy, oil-contaminated conditions without access to lawyers, medical care, etc. - 2 days

amout of time NYPD is legally able to hold detainees without processing - 24 hours

amount of unidentified people believed to be "lost in the system" (at time article went to press) 200-700

fine facing the city of new york per person not released, after being found to be in contempt: $1,000

i wish i could say i was "peaceable" at the moment; although i long to find a more peaceful way of living, my life at the moment is full, not of violence but definately "unpeace", and similar "contests". quite frankly i've had enough.

there was an excellent article in the recent issue of spirituality & health about the non-violent teachings of jesus, "turning the other cheek" not as an invitation to take on more abuse but as "ultimate spiritual jujitsu". there is a great deal of power in this kind of strength, of not letting things get to you. cops may beat & harrass your body, and that is very wrong, but they don't "win" the contest/conflict unless you let them crush your dignity.

if you choose to make it a contest when people like civil servant (who is neither) come to the forums to stir up trouble, you have already put your opponent one step ahead of you. if you meet the verbal attack with resitstence, you feed it, but if you just step aside the force of his own ignorace that is driving him foreward will make him fall on his face, and there is no "contest" to "win" or "lose".

that is what jesus meant when he said, "you have heard it said, 'an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' but i say to you, do not resist evil..." i'm not christian, but there is a great deal of personal power and wisdom in this. turning the other cheek is an act of strength & dignity, not passivity & yeilding.

however, i would say a petty internet troll isn't even worth that much attention. what's the point? does it change anything if he "loses"?

i would like to add that i desperately wish i had the strength to put these thoughts into practice in my real life at this time.

 

You are absolutely right and believe it or not I used to be that way. Living in this kind of world and dealing with those kinds of things from cops and from others has created this kind of feeling over time.


There are alot of things I would like to change about myself.

There are even more things that I would like to change back.

Conservatives will be bitching too when theres no more freedom of speech. It just so happens that liberals aren't as slow as the conservatives are thats why we're fighting this issue now.

 

Where are you Civil Servant? I was looking forward to your response. I'm interested to know why cops think they're so much better than the people they serve.

 

Considering his actions and demeanor in this thread alone he has proven himself to be just like most cops.

Kitty said it best when she said that he was neither "Civil" nor "Servant". According to his actions and statements at least. Most cops aren't though so its really no suprise.
