I am doing some experimenting this season. I have a couple of plants in partial shade and a couple in full sun. As of right now they are the same height, the one in partial shade has no bug bites while the other one has a few leaves missing.

I know the plants prefer full sun most of the day, however, is it possible to get some sort of descent herb from plants grown in shade???--all of these plants are of course for personal use so minimum bud production is not a big deal, however quality is(but their parents had really really good genes).

----edit: this is obviously an outdoor grow. I dont do indoors, dont stay in one place long enough.

All plant growth and developement is based on photosynthesis, that is the rough equivalent of food digesting in your stomach. If, for some reason, your system has a problem digesting food - you will suffer the consequences. For example: reduced growth or reduced developement.

Photosynthesis, as the name implies, is powered by light. So any reduction in light will lower the plants ability to utilize the available nutrients and synthesize the various sugars and pigments that it needs to grow and develope properly. In other words, less light = less growth! Less growth doesn't necessarily mean less developement; a smaller, mature, plant will usually still have buds - the buds will just be smaller. If the plant is severely deprived of light (so that it looks similar to a Holocaust victim), it probably wont produce anything; it will just cling to life and grow poorly. There is a wide range between "full sunlight" and "not enough light to grow shit".

The plants in partial shade get about 4 hours of full sun a day(this is a rough estimate because I am not in the field long enough to determine this).

They are situated on a hill in some woods with an opening towards the East, so they do get some descent morning sun.

It's all about the light! If they get 4 hrs. of direct sun and a fair amount of "spotty" sun the rest of the day - they should be alright. If they get filtered light (real shade) the rest of the day; they will grow smaller, but they will grow!

I decided to scrap my idea, and only do one plant in partial shade, the grow site I was using was perfect tho and I came up with a good idea.

I took a long dead tree with a small diameter and used it to push back the upper foilage to expose the sun. I put one end in the ground and leaned the other agains the small trunk of a nearby tree and pushed it back. It works awesome because there is still plenty of cover for a stealth grow but it gets a lot of sunlight now. The dead tree isnt conspicous at all when seen from the distance(its really tall) because there are a few that look similar to it in the area. So from now on thats going to be the method I use to maximize sunlight

The other site gets filtered sun all day long with about 2 hours of full sun at noon. Thats the new shade site.
