i just walked the entire length of the Memorial Day parade completely shoeless. I was marching with the Anti-War Crisis Center, helping to carry one of the banners.

good both in purpose and style ... :) any comments ?
once during a demonstration some elder folks asked me where my shoes were , "at home" - which left them a little dazed because they knew i wasnt from the place, but not like the parliamentary fellow i was introduced next who i left with a rather perplexed-embarassed grin ( )

nobody commented on my feet. there was actually another barefooter carrying one of the banners behind me. fellow marchers expressed concern over the horse poop from the mounted police officers, but they were just as worried about the shoddies stepping in it as us two barefooters. that was thoughtful because it was harder to see the street ahead with the huge banner in the way, but of course nobody stepped on or in anything.

there were a couple of cruel comments from pro-war types at the sides of the street, but mostly we all got cheers and hurrahs. this isn't exactly a popular war.

the same for me that time. i heard a guy raving about the god damned communists and gays and pacifists who spoiled our country. clearly for that folk bare feet make people fall into one of those categories or in all of them, but his deliberate attempt to insult me failed all over the line.

That's awesome. It is such a wonderful statement being barefoot. Even when I was a psychotic little Christian in high school I would walk 2-3 miles at a time barefoot. It was so amazing every time. I need to do that more.

Like I said, we didn't experience a lot of morons. Oh, there were a few who vocally disagreed, but we had overwhelming support. Most of the crowd was cheering us. It felt really good.
