And who is to say that energy costs will be extremely high? If we control it in our own country and finish making the change without so much damned resistance, it could turn out to be both a relatively inexpensive and profitable venture. The main concern is CHANGE. Change can be a very frightening process, what with all the unknown dependent variables to worry about.
I don't know if anyone pointed out that the Earth naturally warms and cools... There have been a couple Ice Ages. These ages we're living through a warming cycle of the planet, and its going to continue for a couple million years more than likly. But on a side not I do not know if anyone knows this, but the earth's mageticfields are slowing down and will soon begin reversing.
I don’t see what makes him a troll, I mean I thought trolls are people who persistently post up frivolous twaddle that in no way can lead to any sort of civilised debate. While his posts are not particularly well written, researched and a bit superficial, posting on a forum can improve writing skills and irons out myths and other misconceptions. Also, forums are there to express different points of view. IMO total consensus can be a very dangerous thing. I have no objection to people expressing opinions that I disagree with, but it does annoy me when such arguments are supported by factual inaccuracies and opinions and theories are treated as facts.
VERY WELL SAID. thank you, good sir! ... it just baffles me how some people believe that the earth can just magically wipe our asses for us FOREVER.... here's a simple scenario on human impact: pretend you're taking a bath. so, how many times can you take a shit in your bath tub before it's too nasty--polluted--to bathe in? probably once, right? maybe twice or even three times if you are in a third world nation... so the earth and its oceans is just a really big bath tub--but it's still finite! throw seven billion people in this giant bath tub and see what happens.... so why are some people so unwilling to think logically??? people need to realize that we actually DO have a large impact on the earth, especially as one enormous group of pollutors. so don't come around and shit in my bath tub and then tell me "it's all natural." fuck you.
well, all the climatologists coming out and refuting claims (which people rarely read the ENTIRE essay, so miss important points of it) kinda hinders the progress of the anti-pollution movement. the way i figure it, their disagreements of the minutiae doesn't matter, shitting where you eat is a VERY BAD IDEA.
Do you want me to go point by point? You do, don't you? You want to make me go through point by point and explain why your point of view is so incredibly stupid! Well, fine! Just know that I didn't want to do this. You forced my hand. Now then: See my first post. This is a lie. Not just a lie, though. A big fat one. Now you have to look closely at this one. The quote doesn't say scientists polled people and found that there was a consensus and took that position. Yes, science does refuse to accept consensus as a means of proving anything. But nobody is using this consensus to prove anything. The only reason there is a consensus is that it has been proven. The consensus is not the proof, it is the result of the proof. If people in Pre-columbus's time had listened to the scientists they had lying around, they might have realized the earth was round as well. Because scientists knew that. Hell, they knew it in ancient Greece. It's bozos like you, refusing to listen to those who have all the evidence, those who have researched a lot more than you have, know a lot more than you, and are much smarter than you, that are left out of the loop. But now it's by choice, so...good job. Whoa, whoa, whoa...a human being can't create something new? Do you thing CFCs were around before we manufactured them? What about DDT? What about plastics, synthetic estrogens and PCBs? Are they nothing new? Did you know that if you leave your water in an old polycarbonate bottle for a week, you can measure up to 310 micrograms per liter of Biphenol A? Which, by the way is one of three very common synthetic estrogens. Think about that. Continuing onward...We can't destroy anything either? Are ya kidding?http://www.appvoices.org/index.php?/gallery/category/C2/ There's something we destroyed. We destroy rainforests, reefs, ecosystem, really whatever we can profit from. Even ourselves. Chlorine is not a natural gas. In its pure state, it is a gas, but in nature, chlorine is never in its pure state. In fact, it's an energy-consuming process to get it, with lots of nasty byproducts. Are you trying to say gore makes money from carbon offsets? Does he even provide them? Granted he's not living like he should, but he's also educating thousands of people about very real dangers. And he does invest in these things. And Al Gore's way of life is not the issue here, either. You're just out of stupid things to say. Ya know what? i would too. It's not like he's getting rich giving himself money. If you owned a chocolate shop, would you go buy chocolate from some other guy? What a dumb argument! If it didn't provide the service, that'd be bad, but it's not like he's making money buying carbon offsets. Global warming is killing many things. That's why I, for one, am against it. Freon is the most efficient cooling compound, maybe. I dunno, and I don't really care. It's bad enough that its efficiency is irrelevant. DDT sure killed those bugs, too, didn't it? Fighting fires? It's non-reactivity is what makes it a bad thing to have in the air. There are other ways to fight fire without destroying the ozone. I hate to sound callous, but it's really a small tradeoff. It's sad, but increase in cancer rates for anyone under an ozone hole versus seven astronauts, is not much of a choice. At least they are aware that they're taking a risk by going on a space mission. In addition, increased UVB worldwide would wreak havoc on ecosystems, especially the ocean planktons. Which give us oxygen and fish and cool stuff like that. Dude, look at the facts.
wow.. um... you really need to take an ecology class. you want fact? heres fact: 2 years ago, i was in alaska. i visited a glacier. the glacier normally recedes 10 feet in ten years. when i was there, it only took 1 year to recede that much. thats called global warming. hurricane katrina? theres another example. the hurricane would never have been that devastating, if it weren't for the fact that theres too much water in the oceans, water that melted from the ice caps. do you even know what global warming is?
With all due respect, you have no idea what you're talking about. Terrorists want to attack and kill you because their religion tells them too. They want a world dominated by Islam. They want you dead because you're a kaffir, and infidel. They want you dead because you don't believe in the one true God, Allah and his messenger Mohammed. That's why they want to kill you. If the west leaves the middle east and never sets foot there again they will still want you dead because they have a warped sense of religion, a violent deadly sense of religion. The biggest threat to the world right now is radical Islam, not global warming. Global warming is natural, it has been colder in the past, it has been warmer in the past. It's just a natural occurence. Meanwhile while the environazi's have your eyes focused on CO2, a natural gas in our atmosphere, we continue to dump shit and all manner of pollution into our rivers, we continue to spew noxious fumes that create smog, we continue to dump garbage in landfill sites when we should be burning it for energy, we continue to tout the useless solar panel farms and wind power when we should be building nuclear power plants. This man made global warming nonsense is taking our eye off the ball folks. Wake up and stop believing the corrupt politician. Hipnosis
Stop posting bullshit threads like this, misinforming everyone and distorting the truth...why would you want to do that? Do some research, troll
How the hell can you compare Environmentalists to Nazis!?!?!? Since when caring about the environment has harmed anyone in any way?!? (expect car and oil companies, boohoohoo)
lol, people come up with these silly terms when they dont like the truth about stuff..."political correctness brigade", "environazis", "Nannying society", "obviously a PETA/ALF/hippy/brainwashed/politically correct extremist". Its cool at the moment to say things like that apparently, in an "im rolling my eyes at their stupidity" kind of tone...A little phrase like that can diminish someones genuine (well-founded) caring, concern and reason into something ridiculous for some, it would seem. But truly, theyre the idiots. Blind. And in their attempts to patronise they look all the more ignorant
global warming and cooling does happened naturally but its happening at a very unnatural fast rate and thats linked with the amount of co2 in the atmosphere . now it isnt pesky political people saying this is happening its scientists and not just one or two of them but pretty much all of them , you may get the impression that there is some sort of debate but there isnt .
It doesn't matter if Global Warming is real or Global Cooling..whatever! The fact of the matter is that our environment is damaged and we need to do something fast! We all share this planet and we all share responsibility for it.
Whether or not global warming is caused by man, it doesn't change the fact that although it will take thousands of years to use up all the oil on earth (most of it is just very hard to get to), it will only take a century or two to use so much that the atmoshpere will actually become poisonous for humans to breathe. We need a particular oxygen/carbon dioxide ratio in the air to live, and it is without a doubt that if we keep using oil at the rate we do then that ratio will be changed. So, global warming or not, the ideas for change proposed by it will have to become reality eventually. Global warming just wants us to change a little faster.
I agree with wanderin_blues. This global warming isn't a scam. It's a warning and a wake-up call actually for people to care about their environment. ______________________ liza Download the Chevy HHR 07 Catalog by Chevrolet
But the "environment" can never really be "saved," as long as the enviro wacko green nazis get to define what condition it is supposedly in. Will their perpetual "crisis"/need-for-attention ever truly end? They will always find something to whine about? Too many humans, too many hybrids, too much prosperity, too much freedom, too many people questioning their lies, too many babies getting to be born, too many cities, too many products for sale in stores, too many people thinking for themselves, too many people smarter than they are, etc.
Don't you suppose that man's "controlled burns" of fuel in our cars and home furnaces and factories, helps reduce the millions of acres of forests naturally scorched in uncontrollable forest fires? After all, nature will rid itself of its excess oxygen "pollution" from all the plants, one way or another. Why not in a human-assisted way, that is more friendly towards humans?
It will end when the human race becomes sustainable. And you are sour about it because it is incompatible with your ideal of everyone pushing out tons of babies. You don't value the natural beauty of an undisturbed wilderness, and you think there will always be some technological savior to rescue us when we go too far. But that's just a ridiculous thing to rely on.
