I have looked at a few places in Lewisham to see their ex owner prices. PS2 is going for less than 70 pounds with all cables and a remote. DS lite original is going for less than 70 pounds too. I am wondering what the Megabit the DS has? Is it 16 bit or 32 bit? And what about PS2? My guess is, it is about 64, double the psone. Ps3 is basically HD but ps2 seems popular today and there appears to be more games. What should I go for?
"bits" is an extinct term in gaming, i dont think the ps2 is even rated in it with that said i'll go with DS lite, i have a DS lite and Ps2, and havent touched the ps2 in maybe 2 years, with the DS lite, i have the R4DS chip, so i just download all the games off the net for free
Now you're looking more at the technology below the hood than a simple bit rating. I'd go for a DS...to be honest, the DS lite isn't much improved, you're paying for a better screen...but it's not a GREAT improvement, and the fact that they've shrunk all the technology. The lite has the same architecture as the DS. Plays the same games and so...there's not much for the added price. Depends what you want the console for as well...I mean, the DS is a completely different sort of console to a PS2...but there will be new games coming out for the DS for a while, where as the PS2 will dry up soon...as more and more titles get ported onto the PS3 (the PS3 is backwards compatible mind, so while PS2 may have more games than the PS3 the PS3 plays the old PS2 ones too...) Hmm...the PS3 IS a lot of money. You're paying a lot for that Blu-ray drive... Technically speaking the PS3 is a huge step up over the PS2...though apparently it's not terribly easy to design for, to take advantage of the machinery there (not to say the games are bad...they're very impressive...just could be even more so...and no doubt will be once devs get to grips with it even more). Now I feel unclean. >.< Too much praise for SONY...and I really don't like the SONY game division...
The thing is I have some kind of shudder at the word, (Cartridge) Cartridge games in my experience only produce a 16 bit gameplay. They can be multiplied by use of the 32X for the megadrive. I am so looking at the PS2 but wondering whether a DSlite would be more than just another Gameboy. I like some of the games on DSlite, but am aware I can also get games like Harvest Moon. I asked some assistant in a games shop and put my thread question to him. He looked down at me through half moon spectacles and suggested that the DSlite was simply a mobile gadget with short sharp gaming action. He said the PS2 would be slightly more indepth. The decision has come to me late last night when I was resting. PS2 is the one I am going for due to it being held on CD rather than the old fashioned cartridge. DSlite sort of reminds me of the Neogeo or the Gamegear. It is too light, too dinky and small, and feel that it might not work once I dropped it. The ps2 advantages seem to outweigh the DSlite in that it is also backward compatible and can take and read DVDs. The difference with the Ps3 is it is blu ray player and can play new Ps3 games in HD. Or take HD discs. As I aint got no HD tv, I think PS2 is still as popular and perhaps more games available. I would go as far as saying it is better than Xbox. See with Xbox 360, it cannot take classic Xbox games unless you shell out for a stripped down third world core system with the most savvy of features. I would get more functions out of a rubix. Thankyou for your help guys and gals, I have now decided to go with Ps2. I heard it is also available in a Satin chic silver.
my only advice with the ps2- get one of the new thin models as opposed to the older huge ones. i went through 3 or 4 or the old ones in less than a year because they always quit working after a little bit, then i got the new one and i've had it without a problem for about 2 years now. i think this is at least partly because you can actually get to the lens to clean it in the new ones, so if you have one of those lens cleaning cds then the old one might not be as poor of an investment.
Was wondering two things a)Is ps1 games compatible with ps2 console? If it is, it might be even more worth the investment as ps1 games are worth less than 5 pounds now. b)With ds lite wi fi cartridge, if I was to go to a library which has wifi, would I be able to pick it up or would I not be able to as I have seen people plug in computers at a wall socket? If I can use wifi without connections at library, this means I won't have to put up with internet waiting times. Will try and get a slim line model
Yes, the ps2 plays a vast majority of ps1 games. i've read that there are exceptions, but i have yet to come across one; i think most exceptions must be obscure titles.
I read the blurb of the Wifi kit for the Ds Lite. It reads also that in Town you can use the Hotspot areas to get free internet. Was wondering whether the internet was simply a more advanced form of wap or whether one could tap into Hipforums?
there are browsers you can download, as well as media players etc. to be honest, once u have the R4DS chip, u download all the games u want to play for free, u have a media player, and u can even run SNES, NES, N64 Emulators on the DS PS2 is so old i would never even consider buying it in the first place.. although this coming from somone who owns a Wii, DS, PS3, PS2
I have heard that Sim City is coming to the DS in June 22nd. In the pc version and perhaps the PS2 version, it is possible to transfer your own sims that you created on Sims game over to your sim city. Not sure whether the Ds sims game can save your created sims into a compartment that can be transfered over to a game like Sim city? I am aware that PSP, the rival portable is able to take a new style memory card. Not sure if DS lite has a memory card facility. If it does, then I wonder. Also with the wifi software, if one was able to get on to the web, they would need a keypad, to type in letters for their search. Not sure that despite being an advanced gadget that Nintendo have been able to incorporate usb keyboard accessory? When looking on the back of Ds games, I see only a two dimensional snapshot. But on the PSP, I see proper 3d action snapshot, comparable to Playstation. DS lite snapshot look comparable to Gameboy colour or the old master system.
as far as i know there is no ps2 version of sim city. you can transfer created sims into the pc version, but it's more of a cheesy gimmick as opposed to being useful in any way
