my vote goes to shows like "are you smarter than a fifth grader" and shows like dancing w/ the stars and stuff. if thats all theyre seeing of america, i'd think we were stupid too, its only perpetuating the problem. Not to mention the politics and all. ugh.
Maybe foreign countries should help hippies stuck in America. I haven't seen one offer in this thread. It has mostly consisted of insults. Why aren't there any foreign countries sending me aid? Why drink Gator-Aide? Why not pink lemonade? Technically, Anthony
probably because there is so much misinformation on american corporate media and so many people in the street actualy seem to believe such a large percentage of it. =^^= .../\...
I lived in the UK for a year before coming back to America and have traveled extensively in Europe the last few years, and a lot of people did judge me and blow me off as a 'stupid American' the moment they heard my accent. But for the ones who were willing to stick around and listen to what I had to say, realized that not all Americans are violent uneducated xenophobes. I think that its sad, the way this country is portrayed in others. Yes, our President is a fool...he's a puppet, with the strings being pulled by greedy corporations. And many Americans know nothing about the rest of the world...because they don't need to. Many MANY Americans will never leave this country. Many of them will never know what it is like to leave their comfort zone. There are only two of us in my entire family that has ever left the United States. Maybe 3 or 4 of my American friends have been out of America, and only 1 other has been across an ocean. Over here, we just don't see how our actions effect others. 9-11 was just a small taste of the terror that others live on a daily basis, and when it comes to the ignorant masses here...I fear for them. They have no idea what its like, they've never been afraid for their lives. And the government knows this, and they take this knowledge and exploit it. "If you don't want this to happen again, support us. We're the government, we know whats best for you." And since most of the country doesn't have any idea what happens outside its borders, they just hand the power over to Washington, and go about their daily lives, thinking that they've done the right thing. These people in charge are supposed to know whats best. They're supposed to work for the common good, not just for themselves... Its hard to break out of the mold. Its VERY hard. You have no idea how many times I've been told that I'm 'Unpatriotic', 'Anti-America' etc for the way that I think. But the truth is, we ARE lied to here. The media keeps the American people placated with mind-numbing television, with biased news, with hidden political agendas. And many people don't question it, because its so much easier to just accept what your 'superiors' tell you and do what you're told then it is to lead an uprising and risk leaving your comfort zone behind. But this is a great country...a beautiful country. There have been so many times when I was struck quite dumb at the sight of the mountains at sunrise, or the Great Lakes during a storm or a Pacific Ocean sunset. And there ARE good people here, a great number of people with whom I've had amazing conversations, not just about America, but about the world at large. We're not all morons, PLEASE understand that. And those people you saw on the street in that video...they are average people who were lied to, and didn't have the courage to stand up and seek the truth for themselves. They don't believe that they have to know about anything outside the US...because most likely, they don't. But there are some of us working for a change, who believe that America can do better, that don't take everything that is fed to us by the media. Why do you think we're on a hippie forum?? The solution to all of this is honesty and knowledge, not stereotyping and unfounded accusations. And those of us who are not fooled by the government need to take a real stand. Go out and get involved in your communities. Support more public funding for education, for literacy programs, for keeping children off the streets. Mentor a child, and pay more attention to your own children! Do your political research and campaign for politicians who have good intentions! There ARE some out there if you look. Do your own research and talk to people. Talk to people in other countries, find out what their lives are like, what their communities are like. Talk to your friends and neighbors, encourage them to get involved, to look beyond what is presented to them. There are so many things that we can do...
GOSH! you and boss hogg aughta hang out!! fyi, generalities and sycophantic patriotism doesn't even win ME over, and i'm thusly inclined. therefore, i REALLY hope you're a sarcastic alias.

Yourope n the rest of the world aint got the combind intelitzence of a bowl a turnips! Where in tarnation can you find a George Fourman grill for $10.99, yes $10.99! In my hardware store that's where!
Zomie youre gonna make ma pants split with lafter boy. Who the tarnation are you collin dumb? I found the video very funny, though it is very biased. I'm not sure whether Americans are more intelligent than people in other countries; however 'who was the first man to land on the moon?' -Neil Armstrong, where did he come from?-America-you see what i'm tryimg to say. Also, i personally believe that America has a better education system than over here in the UK, here compulsory education stops at the age of 16, therefore a lot of people will go into work with limited education.
I dont think its those crap comedy videos that do it somehow, I think its the fact that none of your cultural exports have any depth to them, hollywood films are about as dum as a sack full of spanners. also there is nothing in your sitcoms to suggest your level of humour goes beyond what most 9 year olds comprehend. To top it all though - it really is your foreign policy and your totally dumb insistence that the USA should protect its economy before protecting the environment in which that economy takes place
