My current major is Secondary Education-Spanish. I just don't feel that I would want to be a teacher anymore. I love Spanish, and would love to keep going with that, but I also love animals and the environment and would love to find a job dealing with that. I could change my major to environmental studies, but I have no idea what kind of job opportunities are out there in that area. If anybody knows anything about environmental studies or environmental science, I would like if they could help me out! Thanks.
Stick with yor current major. They are going to need a lot of spanish speaking teachers to teach the illegals in our school systems. .......
hippieatheart i know exactly how you feel! im in my second year of a BA/Secondary Ed. degree, im absolutely loving the BA side of it, doing cultural/media studies and history, but i really dont want to be a teacher anymore! after a little while of being out of high school i realised what a farce the education system is, and i really never want to have anything to do with that institution again. i love the humanities stuff im learning, but i cant see what jobs would be available at the end. but anyway, to help you out, i have a couple of friends who have done environmental science degrees, and there are definitely jobs out there! (cant say what exactly, but there are! really!) its worth changing to that degree if thats what your heart wants. you wont look back, and there are job opportunities all around the world in that field. Get the education you want now, worry about getting a job later. Keep in mind that there are a lot of jobs that will hire you just for having a degree, and they don't all involve waiting tables. If it's a real concern to you, though, talk to your adviser or the head of the department about the career opportunities available to you.
What year are you in your studies? If your almost done I would ay to finish and try it out for a while. If you still have a ways to go you should speak with some careeer placement people at your school. I can't give anymore input because I am just concentrating on buisness
