Here is a question for the vegetarians . . . do you ever eat anything that had meat on it and then you just pick it off? Like maybe a slice of pizza that has pepperonis on it, and you really want the pizza but you don't want the peps? I know there is meat fat on there but I want just wondering who all does this? I am not a strict vegetarian, but I do pick things off. Sometimes people make beef stew or something, I will just take the meat out and eat the rest of it. I am not writing this to get jumped on. So all of you who are wanting to make rude comments: they are not needed. And they will be ignored (by me at least). All I want to know is who else does this.
I do that too. I did that just last night......picked pepperoni off a pizza and ate it. I'm still new to vegetarianisnm. One day soon I will be a bit more picky I think,
i usually stay away from meat as much as possible. actually..my dad and i are heating up indian leftovers..and i made sure that they were in separate plates because his was a chicken curry and mine a veg. i know that sounds picky..but i try to not have any meat touch my food.
I don't eat anything that meat has touched, dairy has touched, or eggs have touched, or honey... Thats just gross Meat fat is part of an animal, and so is the blood the meat drips like in stuff like stew. And why would I eat that part of an animal once I've decided not to eat the direct meat. Yeckf.
I won't eat it, it's just wrong. I'm sorry but it would feel akward. Oh and wouldn't beef stew be made out of beef stock?
yeah, I don't think I'd be comfortable doing that...animal juice is still part of the poor dead animal, so it would be kind of defeating the purpose of being vego.
i havn't been a vegetarian for very long, but i just dont like eating meat, just like some people don't like eating sushi. so beef soup wouldn't bother me, i would justpick out the chunks
i consider beef stock or chicken broth to be as much meat as steak is. one time someone made a meal, said it was "Vegetarian, except for the chicken broth." that kind of misinformation is really frustrating. it's "liquid meat," plain and simple. as for the pizza, i should think it would still be very strong with pepperoni flavor and obvious indications that it has meat fat on it. plus when you take off the pepporoni all the good stuff comes off too!
nope. never do that. it defies the whole point of being veg*n for me. I also hate having to explain to people why i won't eat vegetables that have been cooked on a bbq after chops have been cooked on it..... bleeeeech!!!
My mom was in stitches when her friend told her that she wouldn't eat bread that was cut with the same knife that cut meat. Then I told her that I wouldn't either. She looked at me like I was crazy. If you're going to eat animal juices, you might as well eat the rest of it. I wouldn't eat anything that's been in contact with an animal product. It's especially annoying when people say "Oh, you can just pick the meat off". I usually reply by saying (very politely, with a smile); "That would be the same thing as me taking a dump on your food and then saying 'oh, you can just pick it off'".
I admit it...ive picked meat off pizza and ive taken meat out of pastas and stuff because i was at a friends house and i wanted to eat.
I just get veggie food, never been an issue. Just couldn't face the though of food being contaminated with meat, and by eating the food with meat I'd feel like I'd suppourted the industy. Saying that last night my mother made fried rice, sans dead pig for me, but everyone else's had bacon. A couple of bits ended up in mine (must have been while she dished up) so I just picked them out.
Something of that sort happened to me in... North Carolina I think... or... wait... I have no clue where it was. I think it was North Carolina but I've been all over this summer and am not sure... anyway, we went to a Golden Corral and I was going to get collard greens... so I looked and it said "southern style collard greens" on the tag for it. I thought to myself "What could possibly make it southern style".. then I put some on my plate and I went "OH SHIT" and everyone stared at me because I freaked out at first then I just sort of walked around and put it back... then I got a new plate.... Edit: I forgot to mention, I went "oh shit" because it had bits of ham hock and lard in it.
I used to "pick the meat out" of soups and other foods when I first went vegetarian. On the other hand, I was a little kid and really didn't understand about meat broth and fats and juices. What you do is up to you. If you feel picking meat off of pizza and other foods is accepatble, do it. But many vegetarians will not do this. "Meat pickers" can have the same effect as "fish-and-chickenetarians", in that it can make people believe that serving unnacceptable foods is OK for all vegetarians. It should be noted that soup, especially, is not meatless even with the beef chunks picked out. In all likelihood, that beef-vegetable soup is made with liquid meat stock. In addition, ordering chicken stir-fry or sausage pizza at a restaurant has the same effect of buying a fur-trimmed parka and throwing the collar away--it still gives money to the industry, whether or not it is used. I realize however, that many of these problems arise when friends or family order or prepare the meal. But it shouldn't be that tough to inform family members or true friends that your diet preferences differ. (It's no different for those with allergies or religious restrictions.) If you get a pizza, simply get a half-and-half: half meat and half meatless. Or, get individual-sized pizzas for everyone. If someone is cooking dinner, let them know ahead of time you'd like it if they could dip out one plate before they add the meat. Or, bring a veggieburger and ask if you could microwave it while others prepare what they want. Or, eat before you go and just eat the meatless side dishes.
my version goes 'how about i take a shit on your food, and you can just pick it off' but then, i suppose we need to be polite
Ugh, no! (this message had to be 10 characters long for me to post it, so here are some extra characters)
