Hans Christian Anderson must be turning in his grave, coming to haunt the disney people! Maybe the witch in The (real) Little Mermaid should cut off thier tongues, just like she did to the mermaid. And what about the agonzing pains in her tail when the legs were being formed? And the prince who dumped her for a rich woman? And how she decided to commit suicide? How Disney can even call thier movie The Little Mermaid is beyond me.

And The Jungle Book? Rudyard Kipling should send the real Mowgli to deal with them. He was not a happy dancing person. He got serious beatings from the bear when he made mistakes. He did not like humans because of thier stupidity and nastiness. The only singing (actually wailing, growling, and snarling) that went on was to scare humans out of the jungle.

Disney uses those kind of books because they are in the public domain. They're free. The writers are long dead. They take classics and turn them into cornmeal mush.

    Down with Disney!

An edit here. If kids see Disney movies, then it ruins them for the original book when they're older.

anastasia wasn't disney, it was a Fox Animation Studios movie.

    Anyway

Disney used to be great. Walt was a wonderful man. One of my heros. Michael Eisner is the one who's the devil. Roy Disney, Walt's nephew, just left the company recently because of the way Michael and the other guys upstairs are running things. Now I think that's just sad. Roy and another guy (his name escapes me at the mo) both left around the same time and started the Save Disney website. I wanted to work for Disney, be an animator...since I was 5 actually, that was my dream. But I've given up on it in recent years because of the downward spiral the Disney company is in :(. I do love older Disney movies. But a lot of things that have come out recently (minus the Pixar collaborations...(which won't happen anymore soon after this next one since Pixar pulled out of its partnership with Disney 'cause they didn't like the way things were going either) Those are great) are just awful and have absolutely none of the magic that the movies used to have.

Sorry...after having the dream of bringing that old Disney magic to the screen with my own two hands for so long, this is sort of a sore spot for me so I tend to go on. Y'all check out that save disney site though.

None of you are old enough to remember the GOOD stuff! Before they froze old Walt himself. You are right about one thing. Corporation is ruining the stories!

no b/c when there older the'll want to know the real history about them but there just kids they dont need to read or see movies that dum ass people are killing there selves b/c some man didnt want them how depressing is that. the child would be emotionally scared for life. so they have to come up with something for little kids can watch and not get the shit scared out of them

I did say "when they're older". No kid can get through a classic. There's too many big words, lol. You have to have some life experience to understand the undertones that are in the classics. They don't exist on just one level. The Little Mermaid I read at 15 was not the same as when I read it at 32. Same for The Jungle Book. More comes out as I get older. When they are older, and IF they read the originals, they'll find them to be two completely different things. I really feel that the Disney Corp should use different titles since Disney's work is so very different from the material they used to get it. I can only assume that the Disney Corp would rather use free books than pay good writers.

yeah disney has gone downhill in my opinion. it was amazing when i was growing up, now everything is just so different. sure they ran out of other people's fairy tales, but i think disney has the coolest movies, especially if you find those "not so innocent" things that people stuck in, like the priet's boner in the little mermaid and such.. greatness

My FAVORITE disney movie has got to be Fantasia. It's one of the most underappreciated pieces of work out there. I mean c'mon! They married some of the most beautiful music with some beautiful animation...it had so much magic to it :D. I'm just a big nerd though lol. Most of my friends hated it when they first saw it. I've always loved it though. Even when I was itty bitty :).

As far as the story's being changed...that's really no big deal to me. The worst one they did like that though, in my opinion anyway, was Hercules. It was soooooooooo off. But really, it's no big deal. They're taking the stories, making them kid friendly (I mean little kids just really don't have the capacity to understand certain things, even in some old fairy tales), and doing them in a fun way (animation and fun songs)...that's the point. Fun. As a parent, if you want your kids to delve deeper into some of the stories, take them home after the movie, pull out the original, and share it with them. These kinds of movies are for pure escapism. Delving into a fantasy world for an hour and a half or so and coming back out happy. And of course they're gonna use old classics that are free reign. It's art. They're taking artistic lisence, using THEIR own art to retell some great classic art, to entertain, to enchant, and to put some smiles on peoples' faces. Is that so bad? Their problem in recent years is caring more about money than their audience's happiness. It really shows too in all the changes they've been making across their little world, and all the things they've been ignoring. There are still those who care though, and who are trying to bring back the real Disney before it passes the point of no return and dies out.

Anyway. yeah. I am, regardless of my recent disenchantment with the company, still a Disney FREAK! :D

Robin Hood and The Sword in the Stone are two of my favorite oldies as well actually. Just thought of them. They were so fun :D Anyone who remembers that Hamster Dance site, ever realize that the little song they used was a sped up version of the opening song of Robin Hood?

I agree with the last few who have posted, about how Disney and other story-based movies are made for fun and entertainment and enchantment. I wasn't really that surprised when I heard snippits of some of the Grimms faerie stories and how gruesome they were (Cinderella's stepsisters hacking off parts of their feet to fit into the slippers for example) I love The Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood. I'd love to get ahold of The Black Cauldron and Disney's take on Sleepy Hollow to indulge myself in more fantasy stuff. One of my favorite naughty bits in The LIttle Mermaid is when Scuttle's trying to guess what's different about Ariel and he asks, "New seashells...? hmm... no new seashells, ok." I'll have to look out for the priest's boner next time I watch it, lol! After Hercules, I was skeptic about Disney flicks (except for Mulan, that ruled!) but Pixar and other 3D animation has saved the movie industry... for now.

I have always like Disney.. I grew up on a lot of their / his films like many of us have I'm sure. Hummm after doing some studying of the film variety at uni I have been opened up to so much more animation other than Disney. Which in my opinion were better. I don't like disney as much anymore. Saying that my favourite is Snow White oh and Sleeping Beauty oh and Jungle Book :D

just noticed someone mentioned Robin Hood... aparently it was blamed for the downfall of Disney in the 1970s as it was too much alike Jungle Book.. So Disney had a lot of making up for :)

hehe, oh yeah, Robin Hood is definitely NOT one of their best movies lol...but I just love it.

And I've also seen some great animated films besides Disney, but part of my love of Dis, is just my admiration of Walt himself. He was quite a guy. I remember seeing those "Wonderful World of Disney" reruns back when I was growing up, and I remember thinking that he was just such a sweet old man and I just loved him to death. :D And growing up and reading about him just solidified all that.
