Well about a year ago, I started to do pushups in my living room because I was seriously lacking in muscle. It's been great and I've been gaining chest quickly (maybe a bit of bicep, not much). I started with 20 pushups a day (struggling) but I've worked my way up to 90 in the morning (45 flat, 45 feet elevated) 90 in the evening (same as above) My goal is to be able to do about 300 a day at least, along with whatever other exercise I can work in. I've been pretty small all of my life and it feels good to actually have some muscle for once! lol but I would like to expand my workout to include more for my arms and upper back if possible. The problem is that I don't have money or space for weights or equipment. If there's any type of workout I could do with very little or no equipment, it would be great. Also, I wonder, what the difference is between hand position when doing pushups? I've heard of doing them with fingertips pointed outward, inward, etc. Of course, I will also take suggestions for workouts that require very little equipment. I travel around a bit and sometimes I want to work out when staying about 50 or so miles from my house and I like to just be able to do whatever I can without a lot of stuff. Any advice or links will be very much appreciated Thanks Craig
I drive truck and there is not much space in them babies for things but a killer little deal and cheap is this http://www.fitbuy.com/pd/vapfk.html ( looks to have more than mine) http://www.fitnessroad.com/equipment.asp (This is the one I have) Pretty cheap and works, kinda like a mini Bowflex, the bands make resistance in and out. I have doubled them to make it even tougher to use, not hard on your joints too.
you can do tons of exercises pushups have so many variations from the stanard to a handstand pushup. wide arm, close arm, explosive (push yourself up in the air: you can do claps in the front and then build up to a behind-the-back clap), you can get a pair of push up bars or you can use cinder blocks and do depth pushups up - exagerate the range of motion by going deeper. pull ups. i would get a pull up bar for the house, or when the weather is nice, go to the park and use the monkey bars to do pull ups. towel pullups are great. change the position of the hands and work different parts of the muscle. full bodyweight squats. you just do full squats. then you can do squat thrusters, squat jumps, split squat and split-squat jumps, lunges, sprints, stair running, etc you your "core" (abs, lower back, sides) you can perform planks and side planks, supermans, v-ups, etc. planks will definately do you well - do them for time. leg raises while hanging down from the pull up bar. good mornings. some cheap equipment ideas: jump rope, making a heavy sandbag to add resistance to exercises, ab wheel. bands are great, you can add the bands so you can do squats, assisted pulls ups, sprints inside your house, perform good mornings with them, X-band walks, band pulls aparts behind the back. check out this website: www.rosstraining.com
yoga...may sound girly but all the guys I have seen in yoga are ripped. It's the most challenging exercise imo. Just get a basic dvd...go to Ross or TJ Maxx they have closeout ones there for around 5 bucks usually that way you can get a bunch and never get bored.
^ what, body weight exercises and either being slightly over wheight or having extra proteins and callories is the way. i think what you talking about is steroids, am i right?
uhm...without weights...Martial arts by far...and if we have any critics i'd love to hear your views..!!! But thats my number one view no weight lifting in volved simple and easy to do! Matt~
ok i lied not easy but it works and its dedication...other wise you really can't offically build muscle...and i am sorry to say but th bow flex and all of that in my view is rather in-efficiant and here is why...You have VARIOUS muscle groups you need work to improve muscles..such these lil combanations i use Chest and SHoulders Biceps, Triceps, Forarms Backs, traps, and lats Legs and the various muscle groups with in them something along with those line...the bowflex takes way long then a balanced 5 day a week excersize schedule that would require about 30-minutes to an hours worht of time the max at times would be an hour and a half... THats my view
