That's is cool as hell dude. Tux with the flyswatter looks like he means business. Mr Gates better watch his rear end or he is gonna get it. Way to go. I am doing my best to help Tux out. I gotta send this to my buddy in Florida.

Keep it up everybody and the more the merrier in Linuxland. We want to compute not jack with our systems and be held hostage for our money. With Linux you get to configure your system the way you want it. You get to have it YOUR WAY.

    Peace and Love, Cricket Shadowolf

    HAPPY COMPUTING!!!!!!!!!

Hey computer people: I have been offline for a while. Moved to tennessee and did not have room to take my computer so I left it in storage. Manged to buy an old dell from a local. 100 bucks and it works. No speaker, nothing but the basics.
Hey if you installed Breezy Badger and want to upgrade your system there is an automatic way to do it. First click (system) then (update manager) and completely update your system. If you haven't already clicked and enabled all the repositories in Synaptic package manager do so first. Repositories is under Settings. Click (reload) on the synaptic task bar if it doesn't do it automatically. Once it updates them from the web. Then update your computer. It will install a new version of update manager as well as other important files you will need for a easy painless upgrade to Dapper Drake and beyond. Once it is done. revisit update manager and click upgrade and the rest is all on autopilot. It may ask you once or twice if you wanna keep an older file or program or not just like windows does. Most of the time it is best to opt for the newer one. But sometimes a program you like a lot may require the older version of a file. Go figure. But it is pretty painless process. I got the info off the Ubuntu site. If anyone needs some old Breezy Badger disks I can send them for the cost of a padded envelope and the postage. Got a few Hoary Hedgehog too. Some older machines may not be able to handle the newer heavier software. Still runs better than in Windows. Even with Dapper Drake. Still running the gnome desktop. Will be installing Ude and UWM tonite. Have a blessed day.

    Love and Peace, Cricketshadowolf

hey computer freaks: I just got some bad news a friend of my son just got served up some serious jail time due to illegal porn on his computer. The stories are conflicting whether he downloaded it on purpose or accidentally or someone who was using his box did it and he found it. Anyway, he panicked and "deleted" the files. Well if he was using linux instead of windows he coulda used the "wipe" program to get rid of the file a whole lot better. His cuz ratted him out to the cops and now he is doing time. Windows has a similar program but I am not sure if it is as good. Please if you install Ubuntu or any form of Linux or are still using Windows please install "wipe" or some other similar program. Delete just says that that area of the disk can be written to, it does nothing to destroy the data.

Hey y'all I'm still using Ubuntu and "lovin it" as they say at McD's. Using Xubuntu nowadays and it works like a charm. The install is easier than ever with the new live CD's just boot from the disk into the live program check out your system and click install. Answer a few simple questions and its automagic. Then follow my instructions for configuring things as you like them. Hit the forums for tweaks and go to Synaptic and get all the coolest new software. Edgy Eft has a lot of really phat programs. Even the hardest core Windows user should feel at home. You do need to be online to do it. The only thing I had to install by hand was my soundcard driver. It is an old one. The list is on the wiki or in the Official Ubuntu Book. Available at Amazon amongst other sites. If your box isn't online you can get the alternate install CD which is not a live CD and will install even on very old machines and ones with low memory. It is still so simple to install that even a total newbie should be able to install without a hitch. It is just as easy or easier than Windows ever thought of being and you can have your Linux your WAY. Not Mr Bill Gates way or anyone else's. Or choose a different distro such as Debian or SuSe or Red Hat. Whatever floats your boat. But I think Ubuntu is great for getting your feet wet in the Linux world and for more seasoned Linux users.

    Linux rocks my box.

    Peace, Cricket

xubuntu and DSL (damn small linux) work well on older systems
for secure deletion I use DBAN

    commands
    Code:
    Quick Erase
     American DoD 5220-22.M Standard Wipe
     Gutmann Wipe
Canadian RCMP TSSIT OPS-II Standard Wipe

Cool!!!! Thanx for the info guys. Hey I noticed in the Ubuntu forums that there is a serious lack of Linux Ladies. Us gals are way outnumbered. In my youth women burned their bras and marched for women's lib. Ladies unite!!! Burn Linux CD's and give them to all your gal friends. Don't be intimidated and kept down by cyber inequality. Learn to be the boss of your computer and STOP doing Windows.

Besides Penguins are way cuter and nicer than butterflies. And what female can pass up a bargain? Well, Linux is by far the best bargain I have found. So, it takes a little tweaking? Tweaking is FUN!! And the guys LIKE giving us gals all the help we need to get proficient. Satisfies their need to be helpful and boosts their egos. Modern men need things to make them feel needed. So let them show you how to be liberated in the cyber world.

    Peace, Cricketlind

    Nice post.

I can just see Mary Tyler Moore trying to explain the advantages of Linux to her boss. "Can't you see that Mr. Grant?!?! Don't you understand Mr. Grant?!?" :)

Billy Jean King beating the pants off of Bobby Riggs with a penguin on her tennis racket and a butterfly on his. :)

it's all about personal preference. linux is flexible like that. both are great GUIs. i have a hybrid with beryl, compiz, and XGL (nvidia driver). i use Gnome with KDE libs going. personnally i like the Gnome desktop but i usually like KDE programs more, except i dont like konqueror much.

i was thinking about turning KDE into an exact look alike of Windows Vista and see if ppl will be more comfortable switching to linux. if it is nice enough, i may just drop an image onto some bittorent servers.

I have been using Linux for several years now, and exclusively at home for over a year. I have been using Ubuntu for most of that year and I love it. It is so user friendly and easy to set up and use. It is a lot more stable than Windows ever was for me. I highly recommend Ubuntu to any and every computer user.

Just a note. If you are using an older computer like mine for instance. If you try to use the Live CD and you experience a problem, that does not mean you can't install Ubuntu. Just download the "alternate" CD as it is designed to install on systems with low memory. It is not a live cd and it installs in text mode. Check out the system requirements for install on Ubuntu.com website to see which is best for your computer. You can request a CD set from them and it is free. By clicking "shipit" on the webpage but if you got a burner or a friend with one why wait. And if you need an alternate CD or want to try Kubuntu or Xubuntu then you need to burn it anyhow.
I think the burner at 50 bucks from wally world was well worth it. 50 bucks versus the cost of buying software from Microsoft and affiliates is a slam dunk.

And like the above comment says Linux is more stable. I restarted this thread due to the above thread Windows Vs Linux.

And my friend if you make a Linux version of Vista please post the link as I just might download it and give it a try. If you need testers count me in. As long as you base it on Debian so I can still use my favorite programs. Like my PySolFC. Us grannies gotta have our solitaire fun you know. LOL.

    Peace, Cricket

I'll throw a plug in for Linux Mint. It'll run video and audio "out of the box". It may replace Ubuntu for me and I really like that.
