I think lots of people should be here. I think all the men and woman working fields, docks, as housekeepers ect should be full members of our country. I mean they are working productive members of society here why not?? I could think of alot of citizens I would rather see sent away from our shores before I sent away some quote illegals but again off topic.
Yank Sorry haven’t got much time have to dash so I’ll cover your other points later (have printed off a copy to read later), but for now maybe we can clear something up – ** Sorry had to laugh “invest the time to show the location” – so this mean you are going to actually back up what you said and show me were my theories have been refuted, rather than making assertions you never seem able to back up? Or is it – ‘do what I say not what I do’? I mean I did at least show were it came from I didn’t just make it up as you seem to Oh come on now, my post are full of site links as to where I aquired information and as for my opinions well I cant offer links to myself, as for conversations I have with others I wont hardly use that as its worthless to do as is mostly opinions. ** You said of my theories – “As near as I can see they have been refuted time and time again” I’ve asked you several times to back this up. You have not. Well maybe you were mistaken in which case isn’t an apology in order or you know that you cannot back it up in which case you are perpetrating a lie? **
All you do is argue with "blabus", he argues back. It goes on and on into infinity. It's rude to the other posters. It reminds me of my shitty neighbors who keep coming to my house fighting. It's all they ever do. A regular soap opera of shit. They've been run off numerous times. You BOTH are doing it. You are BOTH rude and obnoxious. I long since stopped actually paying attention ANYTHING you write, but it gets old having to skim thru when your fighting takes up the greatest part of these threads. I don't give a shit about your personal disagreementds and your whining. THAT's what the PM's are for! Why don't you take your fight to a private place until you can figure out how to constructively disagree. When YOU figure out how to "constructively disagree" then you'll be able to come back and actually ADD something to the discussion, because THAT is the key to curbing violent crime. If you will take your complaining to the PM's, then so will I. But if you guys persist, then I will do the same. Sorry Yank. Mental illness is something I know some things about. Society, in all its modern civility, still handles mental illness with kid gloves. Most do not understand it. Mentally ill people are still ridiculed or treated like common criminals, when in fact they are ILL, just like if you were ill with diabetes. It's just that the malfunctioning part is in your head instead of your body. The police are oftentimes called into a situation where the "offender" is actually honestly "out of his mind" (has no idea who he is/what he's doing) and desperately needs the help of a psychiatric hospital. But instead they are tossed into the legal system, and do not recieve the care they need. Mental illness is so misunderstood by so many that it makes for quite poor treatment options in a lot of cases. And the actual REASONS why there are so many mentally ill people are skimmed over... I am not so sure that anything can be done about violent crime. It is as old as humanity. And much of the time, the violent crimes are being committed by either mentally ill and disturbed people, or people with a "low" intellect. And unfortunately it would seem that many times due to the allure of power and authority, people with not such great intellect and morals end up being the ones in charge. As long as this lack of balance goes on in the human race, then escaping violent crime will be rather difficult.
Hell yes finally something to work with again infact it has inspired me to do something. ( you will see) Okay yes mental illness is a serious issue and infact even if detected alot of times symptoms are simular to other types of mental illness so sometimes the treatments given will make the illness worse, thus holding doctors and therapists more accountable for thier actions might be helpfull too. Some very intelligent people are violent they do so for the thrill or other reasons but with that it according to society they would be mentally ill. So we need to address the ability to detect, and assist the mentally ill as well as deal with the attitude towards them? Is that correct??
The following I believe are ideas submitted by the posters in this thread. They are not in any real order just listed as I read them. (1) People to take a stand against violent crimes both agianst them and against others, step in, dont accept it dont ignore it make it stop. (2) People to become more united, more of a community, get involved with and interact with each other. (3) Take on a different attitude toward violence and how to deal with it (4) Look at the reasons why people become violent and solutions to stop violence in a person before it becomes an outward issue. (5) Deal with violence being allowed around us thru media and entertainement and that being pushed upon our youth. (6) Detect and assist those metally ill (7) Hold persons in power more accountable for thier actions such as law enforcement and goverment. (8) Instill the value to our children of life, of community of caring, of team work. (9) Social programs that assist victims and also supply the needed help for those who commit the crimes (10) Punishment for those who are repeat offenders of violence and dont desire to change and wont work toward change. (11) If firearms are to remain in a society perhaps using the skills of some countries that teach safety, recreation and such be mandatory to all and to those who will actually own a firearm then they must further provide proof they are able to have the responsebility of owning a firearm. Its obvious that current programs are not enough so changes would be needed and badly. (12) Removal of firearms all together be it immediate or eventual. Okay I think I peeled this out correctly from the posters, now I am not saying I understand all as some are not outlined enough to see the impact but thats what I hope we are trying to ahieve. Did I miss any, are we able to work together here and see how each will impact society? Do we have more ideas to offer?
I guess it is far easier to and more fun just to complain about problems, and ask others to fix it for you than attempt to locate the problems and solutions to fix it. This is a theory I have had for years and yet again another shred of evidence to secure that theory.
Let's consider the issue of harm to the victim & his/her family In the criminal case, resulting in a plea bargain or guilty verdict, require that the perp.must pay the victim/estate, monetary compensation, the amount to be determined by the court,in order for the criminal to qualify for a shorter prison term or possibility of early release.
I see the reasoning behind this but would be afraid that unless the money was earned while being punished that a person who was rich could use his wealth to basically purchase his ability to be violent? So maybe it would be fair to have them not only go thru needed treatment for thier issues but also be in some work program to pay some sort of compensation to the victim/victims and in return for thier effort they recieve a credit for the actions and thus an earlier release??? (the question is directed at you for it was your idea and I changed it. Is the change what you had in mind overall? Do you have changes to it?) Thanks also for trying to keep a thread that suggests working on a solution and not just a place to complain.
shit see that guy over there with the rifle, WTF is he doing "Hey hey you I am calling the cops man"! SHHHHHHDOOOFF !!! "Oh god I have been hit" ! scene two "OK put the machette down I am armed with a phone" Great ideas except the one where you go up to someone and show them your mobile phone - best thing - look - see event - move out of sight - call cops Also dont just walk by when someone who looks like a drunk is lying down in the street - we saved someones life because everyone thought this guy was a drunk but he had had some kind of blood disorder and had blacked out and was choking - turned out he was a local businessman
Love the sound effects, lol Anyway yes using your brain to asses the situation first to see how best you could help and still live yourself is a great idea. If the guy has a gun or other weapon or if they obvioulsy would wipe up with ya and you a phone call it in you dont have to run up to them with your phone. Just by calling in your doing more than most. Yes dont assume something take a chance and check it out. You see a car pull up and pick up a kid, jot the plates and description of the car and driver down. Save it for later or if your guts are telling ya that something is wrong, call it in. If there is a strane car in the area do the same. Go to your nieghbors and give them your number, ask them if they ever see anything strange going on please dont hesitate to call. Alot of people are afraid of putting somebody else out, this opens a door.
and if your brother or sister is a drug dealer, or infact even if its your mom or dad, do not hesitate to phone the police. If possible hold a gun at their temple until the police arive. This will make you very popular amongst the neighbours but not so popular within your family and hey dont forget some places like the UK are thinkin of offering reward money for doing just that. Maybe you could go out campaigning for such reward money to be granted before you shop them
I meant the showing of a cell phone in the event of someone being abusive to their girlfriend or child or other domestic issue, not to some mugger or nut with a knife who wants to play with my intestines. I think the average person who escalated an argument out of hand would cool it down immediately if they were reminded that someone was around with a phone.
A work program with earnings to compensate victims,is fine but unfortunately those prison earnings alone would be very meager, currently a criminal who purports remorse, along with good behavior in prison, may be eligible for early release. This is without any obligation to help reduce the burdens of the victim, past, present and future, resulting from that crime. I would suggest that both assets and percentage of future earnings during parole be considered as potential victim compensation. The criminal who declines, really doesn't deserve a break on his/her sentence. Perhaps restitution to victims has potential to deter & reduce crime ?
(ok just dropped in and cannot stay as my child has chickenpox) Yank So you still cannot back up your claims, so will you apologies, or are you going to remain a liar? ** You ask me to explain, again, why I believe the threat/intimidation/suppression attitude is holding the US back from tackling its social and political problems, from in fact becoming a better and healthier society? As a friend here commented ‘if you put it any simpler you’re gonna have to speak in baby talk?’ I tried to explain that I don’t think you are dumb that you’re probably only acting dumb to get out of entering into an honest debate. Once again I must wonder why, if you think your views are right, that you seem so unwilling to debate them openly? Anyway although this seems like just tactical dumbness I’ll try and explain again. ** It seems to me that US society has some social and political problems. It is how these problems are viewed and tackled that seems to me the problem with US society. Although Americans mouth the words of unity the fact is that there seems to be many and often deep tensions between social classes, ethic groups, religious ideas and a great animosity shown by many toward supposed ‘un-American’ ideas. My viewpoint is that these problems need to be faced so solutions can be found. My contention is that the attitude of threat and intimidation that seems strong in US society has developed the idea that these social and political tensions can be kept under control by suppression (tough laws, tough prisons, execution, guns etc). I’ve given numerous examples from US history and from the comments of many here to back up my ideas that don’t seem disputed in most cases. It is like the idea of the carrot and stick to get the mule moving in the right direction, the idea of threat coupled with benefit. The intimidation attitude leans a lot more toward the use of intimidation than to giving benefits and in some cases it can lead to the idea that, since they have threat, no benefits should be given and even benefits already given can be taken away. ** So what should be done? That involves looking at US society and trying to understand why this attitude exists why the tensions exist and what can be done to alleviate them. **
How come you can fund NASA to put men on the moon but you cant bomb the banana republic of Iraq into the stoneage??? and if you cant do that whats the solution to your social problems that the american media is inflicting on everyonelse
The entire problem stems from the "an eye for an eye" mentality that nearly everyone seems to think is the best way to deal with troublesome people. Until the human race can quit thinking that violence and torture is an acceptable punishment for violence, things can not change. The entire nature of the mental health system needs to change from one of fear and ridicule to one of compassion, help, and understanding. People prescribed potent psycoactive drugs should be monitored DAILY for any bad reactions. The entire prison system as it stands needs to be abolished and start over. With 1 in 35 citizens in the usa being in some type of legal trouble or another, I happen to know probably at least 20 or 30 people who either have been incarcerated in the past or are now, or possibly facing jail in the near future. So I know how the "punishment" system operates. I spoke with a couple of jail guards recently and was told that almost 90% of inmates are there for drug related charges. It appears plainly that most if not all of the people incarcerated for "crimes" do not belong in an environment where cruelty, violence, and intimidation are the main "cures" for people's troubles. These people have PROBLEMS. Jail does not aim to help people stop having problems, but rather causes them more. And all they have to say in their defence is that jail isn't SUPPOSED to be a good place. But isn't that exactly what these socially impared people really need? A place where they can learn alternative and positive means of dealing with their issues, a place of SAFETY where people can be assured that they will recieve the help and treatment they need to become "acceptable" members of society? Yes, I agree that people who have committed some horrible crime should be required to "pay back" something to the victims. But again, the system is not set up this way. I firmly believe that the US prison system should make it manditory for inmates to work for minimum wage, require each inmate to have a bank account, require each inmate to pay their debts of child support and whatever else out of it, but make certain that the inmates have enough of a bank account saved up when they enter society again to be able to get a good start. And while they are imprisoned, their stay should be more like being in school than jail, with kind and compassionate supervisors and teachers whose goal is to teach these "unacceptable" people how to be good members of the human race. ANYONE who is incarcerated simply for drugs should immediately be released to treatment facilities which have the same goals. War should be completely ILLEGAL, and any faction which thinks that violence is an acceptable way of dealing with world issues should be subject to the same treatment as any other violent criminal. These things all by themselves would go a LONG way towards fixing the problems of violent crime.
Good plan. Incarcerated felons only recieve pennies per hour. But future earning would have a real impact for white collar and blue collar crime.
(1) Life imprisonment doing constructive labor. (2) Castration and social reprograming (3)Imprisonment and social reprograming and strict restriction to contact with those abused.
