Last time I checked Canada didn't want to take anyone in as a citizen without a long history of a decent income, a pile of money and an education.

seeing as we allow pretty well ANYone in this country, you shouldn't have a problem. Were the easiest country to get into.

If/when you make it over here, Welcome to Canada. Hope you don't mind being taxed to death.

Being British definitely gets you points! It's not the hardest thing in the universe, but you do have to know *something* about Canada in order to pass the little entry test thing. Allonym's right though- contact your nearest consulate/embassy.

Lol... there is no "test" that you have to pass. My husband resently immigrated to Canada from the US.

See how long a UK citizen can come to Canada without a visa. You won't be able to work while you are here, but you will be here... step one accomplished. While you are here start the immigration process. It would be easier if you were married to your girlfriend, but you can file as commonlaw.

Contact the Canadian embassy in your area as one of the above posters said.

You're gonna need the visa. You're gonna need a job or get into a university.

Being commonwealth does help but it still can be tough without a job lined up or marriage. Common law, I believe you need to live with the person for at least 2 years, do you not?

A student visa is probably your best and easiest bet to get your foot in the door. (Might I suggest Enlgish)

or you could show up in Halifax harbour in a crate and claim refugee.

the british education system isn't so good these days for the peasants, hence the mispelling. i've met many uni graduates from angleterre who couldn't even pronounce words properly let alone spell them. i moved from britain many years ago and thank my lucky stars i did. if you go to a private school there's a better chance for some sort of education but then again one must never confuse arrogance for knowledge.

They use a point system. I'm not a hundred percent sure what the threshold/values are, but you get points for speaking English and/or Frech, education, skills (particularly ones that are in demand), money, marriage, etc.

the first step you can take is to strive

if you have difficulty you must examine every letter and word, check it with a dictionary. you will find given time like any skill, that you will become better but you must try, you must concentrate and give everything you have.

    start small.

i have had many set backs in my life but the thing i discovered is that you must think and learn and hone your mind body and soul. by examining every word you will hone your skill.

hippyland will be a great place to hone your skills
