Hey M4N. Where's a good place to learn about CFL lighting. My house is going to pretty much cfl as the incs burn out, meanwhile I've always been a MH and HPS kinda guy for the herb, but progress happens. It would be nice to see if technology can keep my electric bill under control while not hurting yield. Any hints?

check out icmag, http://www.icmag.com/ic/ look specificly at the micro grow section, I would say for a single plant you could even go with a 100 watt HPS or get a 3 light bathroom fixture for 12 bucks and use CFL's.

    hello,

car has regained control!!! Turned 21 a week ago so you should understand ;) Anywho, now that i know you like HID's i would skip out on the fluoros and go with either a 70 or 75 Watt, can't remember, HPS security lamp....you can pick these up at lowe's, home depot, etc. There are a bunch of do-it-yourself threads over at ICmag or hg420 for converting these security lamps into grow lights.

If you really feel like giving cfl's a go i would suggest a mixed spectrum setup......for vegetative maybe use the ratio of 2 cool white bulbs to 1 warm white bulb and for flowering the ratio would be 2 warm whites to 1 cool white. This doesn't mean you can only run 3 bulbs but say if you were to run 6 cfl's i would suggest 4 cool white, 2 warm white for veg and vice versa for flowering.....people have been gettin pretty amazing results with this setup of cfls......either way just look at a few journals, as im positive you already have, and you will get an idea.....experience is the key.....get a few grows under your belt and you will pretty much have a perfect idea of what to do i.e. knowing how to fix deficiencies/toxicities....i would say experience and a digital pH meter are pretty much the most important tools in growing....IMHO. If you need any more help i know that me and T.H. are always available, good luck bud.

Thanks for the replies . Right now the MH and the HPS are 400 watts each, I follow up the MH with the HPS for flowering. When going 24 hours in veg I'm burning some some medium sized KWH, so maybe the CFLs aren't where I need them to be yet. Then again maybe they are. Time to follow the links. More importantly, happy birthday. (I'm your fekking grandfathers age.)
