When people think patriotism is supporting your country's leaders no matter what and keeping your mouth shut, that is not a democracy and it certainly isn't patriotism. Really boggles my mind what the hardcore Christians think (and I don't mean all Christians, just the really really hardcore crazy ones). The fact that they are still in office and against these desisions that give equal rights to people really boggles my mind too. Sometimes I feel like they're taking over the world and they are actually succeeding in taking away our democracy. I mean they are taking sex education out of schools! Sex education is a HUMAN RIGHT. They are on their way to making abortion illegal! They tried to make flag burning illegal. Please. I thought I lived in a fucking free country here. The list could go on but we have to STAND UP for our rights and stand together - and vote democratic next presidential election! Its time to give everyone the equal rights they deserve. Gay people are people too. Non-white people are people too. Women are people too. This country needs to stop being homophobic, racist, and sexist.
yeah yeah baby we heard this one before !!! let me just point you to this thread where its about real opposition http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3438895#post3438895
Personally, I fucking hate these goddamn Republican Neo-conservative religious right-wing nutjobs. But I'm not too crazy about Democrats either. The lesser of two evils is still evil. In the words of Roger Daltry of the Who: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Won't Get Fooled Again Lyrics The Who We'll be fighting in the streets With our children at our feet And the morals that they worship will be gone And the men who spurred us on Sit in judgement of all wrong They decide and the shotgun sings the song I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again The change, it had to come We knew it all along We were liberated from the foe, that' all And the world looks just the same And history ain't changed 'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again No, no! I'll move myself and my family aside If we happen to be left half alive I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky For I know that the hypnotized never lie Do ya? Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! There's nothing in the street Looks any different to me And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye And the parting on the left Is now the parting on the right And the beards have all grown longer overnight I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again Don't get fooled again No, no! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Meet the new boss Same as the old boss
Yeah, Right wing nutjobs are scary. They impose their values on people who are religous/Right-wing. We need a society where People can make up their own opinions on things rather than inheirite their parents... The thing is with presidental elections are they're always a two horse race. What I feel America needs is a Multi party voting system. Give people a choice for once... Hardcore christian NJs Can't seem to understand the consept of other points of view. I mean for example: Intellegent design, Religon dressed as science! RELIGON AND SCIENCE SHOULD NEVER MIX!!! I am scared of the religous right....
The Who were vicious mods who wouldn't be satisfied until they'd smashed the planet up and left us floating in space. Thank god Pete Townshend was a scrawny musician and not some super-being capable of world destruction. Same for Johnny Rotten and anyone else who made a career out of picking apart and destroying establishment because it felt right. They served their purpose (and that lyric was perfect for this conversation) but that viewpoint is pretty limited I think. I mean I agree that there's a need for it, the tearing down of obstacles, but ultimately there needs to be a process of reconstruction. We need to choose sides and give our allegiance to some constructive movement, or nothing gets done. We are FORCED to side with the lesser of two fascists, the democrats, (or the conservatives, if you're into fear and other restrictions) just to make some headway towards progress. At heart I'm really more of a libertarian myself. Scratch that, freer than a libertarian. Free as in constantly pressing the boundaries of freedom and even then imagining up new freedoms still. Let us govern ourselves by the light of our own wisdom! Oh wait, there is no such wisdom right now? The masses are a great big agreeable ball of desperation that can be lead around by the nose and easily manipulated? Yeah, that's depressing, but I think it's the truth right now. Sadly we do need laws and we do need a military, being the power (and target) that we are. But does it have to be like this forever? Self actualization. Boom, there it is, a solution that's as best a shot as any. Let's become fully awake humans and see what we can come up with then. Otherwise we're stumbling around in the dark. To me self actualization represents THE light at the end of our tunnel. Maybe there's just a slightly less dark and wider tunnel beyond it but it will surely open up new possibilities. Head for the light, I say! We must become enlightened beings. Until then, I'll go with those who are at least trying to retain some of our freedoms and can grant us the luxury of self actualization. Those who make an effort to hear the plight of the struggling, and try to keep our collective conscious out of the metaphorical gutter. Let's try to minimize pain here while paving the way for enlightenment and a better existence through evolution.
Self actualization. Now, that's a nice concept. The problem is: do you even have a "self" to actualize ?
Now comes the issue of faith, and if I'm any better off than the Christians whom I deem ignorant? I guess we all have to put our faith somewhere, right? If nowhere, else then in nothingness at least.
The hardcore right-wing Christians are extremely ignorant, and they are working hard to take away our rights man! They scare me too because they are this idiotic, insane, but huge force in our country right now. I don't think all Democrats are all bad. Some of them I'm fond of but yeah a lot of them are fake and some of them avoid saying anything about issues I really care about, like gay equality. I think one problem is everyone just votes Democrat or Republican, and most people probably don't really hear what anyone on the other side has to say, they just vote for the party they usually vote for. And I think if people could think for themselves instead of just eating whats being fed to them by their parents or authority figures, that would really be awesome. I honestly think people growing up today (like around my age) who believe the right-wing crap only believe it because their parents did for the most part (not all cases). But maybe not, who really knows. I mean I grew up in a liberal family but I still think I think for myself, my parents and I have disagreed on issues before, and we've had different religious beliefs (they all change a lot I think).... Okay now I am really just rambling I'm gonna stop now.
What is it they say? "Democracy is the worst system apart from all the others"? MPs in this country just voted to exempt themselves from the Freedom of Information Act. I was just like, "how come they're even the ones voting on that?"
What I meant by there is no "self" to actualize is that everything is connected to everything else... Until politicians whether republican, democrat or what not, comes to this realization, it's just going to be nothing but "meeting the new boss, same as the old boss". A game of musical chairs. Democrat & Republican, different party, same bullshit.
By that definition, if there's no self, we might as well put up with whoever's in charge, because they're all the same person, as are we, and we all made it happen. Are you comfortable with that?
Hah umm no I wouldn't be posting if I wasn't trying to get people to do something about it! I'll have you know I actively pariticipate in most things the Human Rights Campaign and Planned Parenthood asks me to do. So I am fighting this battle for my rights and for yours. I also go to anti-war protests and would love going to more. I try to do whatever I can because I think we as people deserve equality and the same rights as everyone else. On another note though, I don't think democrat and republican is the same bullshit.. Democrats are more liberal, which equals more open-minds, which equals for equality and more support on our rights. Republicans are generally more closed-minded and traditional. Of course there are exceptions to both. I personally would favor one over the other but yeah I agree, political parties shouldn't exist at all.
