Do you ever get the her/his dreads are really good and they will laugh or cringe at mine? I think my hair looks like shit at the moment even though it is pretty well knotted, but I have a lot of loose bits and after it sucking it all up it only ended up about 2-4 inches long. I always wear something in my hair when out, bandana, scarf, hairband. I am usually pretty much I don't give a fuck what you think, but when I see someone with established dreads, I kinda run a mile. I try to tell myself they have been there done that, but it doensn't work.. I get totally paranoid. I don't know what I think will happen, I guess that they will tell me my hair is shit and to give up. But then I see dreads, obviously combed and then chopped at the bottom that look like shit and even then I felt out of my comfort zone. I think I am way too paranoid. Nah I know I am paranoid, but not usually about this kinda stuff.

aw hun :( dont you worry you are beautiful!!
paranoia isnt fun, i get paranoid about my dreads (getting dirty) but i figure paranoia isnt going to ; a) keep my dreads clean or b) knot em up any faster!
come stand next to me for a bit,you will feel much better! mine arent even half finished yet i have more braids than dreads at the mo! possibly 3 of my dreads are behaving properly lol!
they will be fine, love em and they will love you back!
if i see someone with dreads i like (pretty much anyone i meet who has dreads) i ask em about them, how they did them how they care for them, how long it has taken for tham to get like they are. every one has been uber friendly ;)
    love

oh i know what you mean! i feel the same way. I've posted this in a couple of threads already but to make myself feel better i just remind myself that my dreads are just little guys right now and that it takes lots and lots of time before they look semi decent. When you see people with amazing dreads, talk to yours and tell them to follow suite of the wonderous established dreads your eyes are feasting on....they'll listen! :)

by the way, i think yours look AMAZING!!!!!!!! they are SOOOO very very cute! You look like a mama fairy!! I like the way they're kinda wavy...it looks like streams of water or something flowing across rocks. That must sound so silly.....but that's imediately what i thought of when i saw your locks [IMG]

try and let them see your dreads. ahah I kno, polar opposite but whenever some dreadhead spots me they always say somethign like "lookin good bro, lookin good" or "way to go, lovin it" ya kno somethin to that effect. I even got asked questions by a few kids who went the dreads in a box route. "what did you use to make them look all wild man?" reply: "patientce, soap, love, time."

really though, unless the person is a total asshat they'll usually give you props

I love you guys, every one of you.. This place is like a big bear hug. xoxo

I will try to show them more in public, they are loose and free most of the time at home and at the beach n stuff. I just don't really feel comfortable going to the store yet with my hair all unruly and out there.

:) This may sound wierd...but I always wear my hair down going to the movie theatre. In fact, that's one of the only times I wear it down in public. I dunno, maybe because it's dark or something. :p

    baby steps, lovely.

Honestly, I don't think you should be paranoid. Judging from everyone on this forum, and all the dreadheads I've met, it takes a special kind of person to grow their own dreads. Someone who doesn't care what anyone thinks, and doesn't judge harshly in return. You'd feel better after seeing my hair, it's a mess. (They're only about 3 weeks old.) You just need to trust yourself and be confident, because almost all dreadheads are the nicest people in the universe. Hope that helps.

yeah seriously, i think mine look horrible at the moment. but there are 2 kinds of people in the world. those who love dreads and those who don't. your ganna hev to get used to that. i think if you just wore them out more often you'll see that most people will just accept it. give it a try. i think they look awesome

I get REALLY paranoid about mine, and I backcombed. Infact, I got so paranoid that I asked a bajillion questions on these forums. My paranoia also led to me redoing my dreads (Which look WAY better now, I'll post pics when I can). Overall, I still worry a LOT about them. I still even sometimes think about redoing them. I always look at them in the mirror and am unhappy with the palcement of some, and think "If I just redo them ONCE more, they'll be JUST the way I want them!" But really, they're going to basically do their own thing in the end anyways. The one I always worry about is the one dread that's in the middle of my head. It's the only one smack dab in the middle, and I always think about redoing my dreads for that. But you know what, screw it. Everybody's dreads are unique, and that's what make dreads so amazing.

So whenever I get paranoid, i remind myself that it takes loads of time, and they're still gonna do wahtever they want. It's just added stress. Just let loose, and say "Fuck it."... although that's kinda hypocritical coming from someone with the same problem. (Me) =P

the first shots were right after I started mine... two years ago

crap pictures and don't mind the chopsticks.. it was a weird day... but anyways I just wanted to show a lil of how it can work even with really short hairs...
Yours are awesome!! I love them..
I had plenty of people (with out dreads) giving me all kinds of shit about how I should wait and how silly they looked.. I got decently paranoid too.. but fight past that.. I did.. I almost never put my dreads away I got really attached really quickly and I turned a blind eye.. and deaf ear to any who might respond to my hairs negatively. It can be hard but not for long... after you give yourself the love you deserve it becomes easier.... when you go out next time try leaving them out and if you get any weird feelings from onlookers distract yourself immediately.. as silly as it might sound those on these forums that tell you to talk to your dreads are completely right imo... talk to them and let them know that they are beautiful.. and that every lil thing goes through an awkward stage.... ;D ..I hope that helped... and chin up for sure.. you are one of the most beautiful dread mommies I have ever seen
