In those public service commercials on keeping america beautiful. He's standing on the side of the road when some assholes dump garbage out onto the street Hotwater
For that matter, remember when the government actually spent money on public service commercials that had a sense of social conscience? Like, conserving energy, not polluting, exercising (the Presidential Council on Physical Fitness), etc. Today it seems like the government is promoting the opposite of all of that. It took Katrina and $4.50 a gallon prices before it was finally no longer below Bush's dignity to utter the word 'conserve'. (Actually, it still was below his diginity. You could hear his voice cringe as he said it with difficulty) .
You're right the days of give a hoot, don’t pollute, have been replaced by we just don't give a hoot Hotwater
Anyone remember Johnny Smoke? That probably goes back to the 60s. It was an anti-smoking public service announcement about a cartoon character who looked like a cigarette and road a horse. He ended up getting gunned down, I think. .
Never heard of 'Johhny Smoke' but I have seen the public service commercial of the Red Indian in the kayak blaming the white man for polluting his native soil.Wasn't it made during the Nixon era?........Exactly;....fat lot of good that did!.
He was right to blame the white man for shitting all over what was pristine wilderness for over 50,000 years of human occupation Hotwater
I have heard the man on those commercials referred to as Iron Eyee Cody, I wish they would air it again, that is an awesome commercial.
He wasn't Native American, he was Sicilian. I suppose he did have a right, however, to be angry at "white" Americans for screwing up pasta sauce.
If true it was essentially a TV commercial, and he was employed as an actor. And If you've ever seen any of those old westerns most of the native americans are caucasians with painted faces. Hotwater
That commercial still resonates with me. Probably the most influential one I ever saw as a child. Made me think about nature and leaving it as it is supposed to be. We pick up the trash on our road; have a very inconsiderate neighbor who throws his fast food wrappers out daily. Wish he had seen that commercial!
thats because alot of the old 'cowboys and indians' films where filmed in the hills of italy which is why there called spaghetti westerns i dont remember the crying guy but thats probly cos im from england though i have seen him parodied on waynes world 2 and the simpsons
For those of you that havn't seen it, here is one of them.. http://www.retrojunk.com/details_commercial/499/ ....................Dennis....
yes, I remember that commercial at the time it was aired, but years later , I found out I was deceived, because that actor isnt actually a native american, he was italian. what a crock!
What about that old Mazola corn oil commercial from the 70s with all the Indians dancing around the fire chanting 'Mazola, Corn Goodness'? That was pretty pathetic. .
Madcrappie: Most TV is just fantasy. The show "Northern Exposures" was about a small town in Alaska, but was shot on location in Washington State. The stars that played Alaskan Natives were really American or Canadian indians.(PC: north american native people).
