    Hey everyone....

So, I'm familiar with fabric dying and such... but new to dying yarn. Just dyed a batch the other day wit Kool Aid, and it turned out super well! Although, the problem with it is that I'm limited in colours... which requires a lot of mixing and experimentation and such...

Anyway, I just thought I'd throw the question out there.... to anyone with yarn dying experience ~ which dyes work best for you for wool?

isn't wool a fiber that needs acid dyes and a setting process?

drummin, I'm not sure, to be honest.... well, a setting process, likely yes.

I've been so far, dying my yarns with either food colourings or things like Kool Aid, and setting it by nuking it in the microwave so it sets, that's been my method thus far.

    Hey...talk about a subject I love....I clean...comb...and spin all natural fibers....so of course I naturally dye them!

Mordants which are what sets the dye...can be as simple as a copper or iron pot!

    Alum....copper pennies work too!

I can send you a whole list hon....NOW as for dyes....

Just thought I would let ya know that I am dying tonight with the lovely dandylions that encased my field next door!
    LOL...hundreds were there...hundreds still are!

I later after the first huge three skiens of wool I dyed mustard yellow....went a little nuts!

    LOL

I took the dye after the wool was set out to dry....and added more heat...then more green henna......hmmmmmmmmmm!

It allowed me to get this type of colour...burnt orange!

    So happy am I!

I have dyed with...madder root...onion skins...yarrow...birch leaves...indigo...woad...etc...I can send you a lovely list of those too!

    Hugs to another fiber fiend!
